Since introducing us to both his sweat and his suit, Nelly has moved away from grills and NSFW dance parties in exchange for cameos on The CW and joy rides on his tour bus. But during that time, has anyone ever seen Nelly and Flo Rida in the same room?
Future is quickly becoming the new “it” guy. He’s one of the new-age rappers that can’t really be confined to a narrow space. He raps, but then he sings, albeit auto-tune assisted. He’s slowly honing his new niche–making music with the leading ladies of R&B and pop. He landed on Rihanna‘s “Loveeeeeee Song” from her No. 1 album Unapologetic; and Ciara called up the rapper for the remix to “Sorry.” For the remix to “Neva End” he’s enlisted R&B veteran Kelly Rowland, who is the go-to girl for hot seductive songs with rappers. And although “Neva End” is Future’s song, Kelly owns it. Read more…
Is getting too hot in thurr? St. Lunatic Nelly was arrested and detained after police found nearly ten pounds of marijuana, 36 small bags of heroin and a loaded gun on his bus at a checkpoint in — yes, you guessed it: Sierra Blanca, Texas. Nelly joins the high company of those who have been similarly detained in the border town before him, Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and most recently Fiona Apple included. Read more…
We here at VH1 are strong believers that mothers are worthy of appreciation 365 days a year. That said, this Sunday is the official day we honor those special women in our lives. Seeing as how music has always been expressive and a reflection of the artist’s own life, it only makes sense that everyone from Tupac to Taylor Swift have created songs expressing their love for the woman that brought them into the world. Those songs cover the entire spectrum, from light and fun to heartfelt and emotional. In honor of Mother’s Day, we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of our all-time favorite songs dedicated to moms. Since we don’t sing or rap, we’re leaving it to those that do to honor all the mamas. Happy Mother’s Day!
1. “Dear Mama”- Tupac
Tupac’s ode to his mother Afeni Shakur has to be one of the most touching and well known dedication songs in music.
2. “Mama’s Song” – Carrie Underwood
In this guitar heavy country song, Underwood reassures her mom that her husband to be is a great man, and marrying him doesn’t mean her mom is losing her.
3. “Hey Mama”- Kanye West
“It don’t got to be Mother’s Day or your birthday for me to call and say, ‘Hey, mama.’” When Kanye made this fun track for his mother, we never imagined it’d be the very song he’d perform in her honor after her death. Counting our lucky stars that she was able to hear it before she passed.
4. “The Best Day” – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift probably has a lot of great days seeing as how she’s one of the biggest country singers and all. But spending quality time with her mom tops the list of best days she’s ever had.
5. “A Song For Mama” – Boyz II Men
When Boyz II Men’s “A Song For Mama” played on the popular late 90s movie Soul Food, eyes welled with tears. Soulful voices singing lyrics that helms mothers as Queens would make any mama proud. Read more…
Are you excited yet about Round One of Bracket Madness featuring your favorite emcees of the Yo! MTV Raps era? In this corner, we have the pioneers of this rap thing: Chuck D vs. KRS-One. With their well respected contributions to hip-hop its kind of hard to choose between the two. Both bred in the ghettos of New York in the 60s and 70s, their lyrics reflected the awareness of the world they saw around them. But one would be highly mistaken if they attributed the consciousness in their rhymes for weakness. Each one of their flows are undeniably raw. So who do you vote for? Here’s three reasons to vote for either one.
1. Two words: Public Enemy.
Dude was a member of Public Enemy. Need we say more? A rap group like that doesn’t come around twice in a lifetime. “Public Enemy #1″ was a classic track from their debut album Yo! Bum Rush the Show in 1987. From 1988-1991, the dynamic group released three platinum albums. The same group gifted the world with “Fight the Power.” This song is better than some cats’ entire catalog. I’m just sayin’. Public Enemy went on to sell four million albums throughout their career. Plus, anyone that could put up with the clock rocking Flavor Flav, has to be one hell of a guy.
2. Distinctive sound.
No one in hip-hop has a voice like Chuck. It’s so distinctive it couldn’t even be duplicated. He raps, you listen. From the flow to the tone to the speed, Chuck D has a full command of his sound.
Tonight, legendary emcee Nas joins this season’s Behind the Music alumni of artists like Aaliyah, Nelly, T-Pain, Game and Akon. In the program, the Queens rapper —who entered the hip hop game back in 1994 with the classic Illmatic— opens up about life, love, loss and beef.
Speaking of the latter, Nas’ 2001 rivalry with Jay-Z was, without question, one of hip-hop’s all-time biggest beefs. In this exclusive clip, Nas talks about his reconciliation with one of the game’s biggest luminaries. After the diss records and the hype had dwindled, Nas remembers L.A. Reid asking if he’d be willing to talk to Jay. He went to the studio where Jay was, and like two true New Yorkers whose hearts beat hip-hop, the two dapped each other while laughing. When Nas signed to Def Jam in 2006, Jay-Z said, “You can’t sign an artist of Nas stature. You can only partner with him.”
Watch Behind the Music: Nas tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Everyone knows that Ashanti and Nelly are a couple – and every knows that every one knows, except the lovey-dovey pair. So when Ashanti spoke about her man this weekend, she of course kept it vague and unclear, even though we all know what’s going on. “Me and Nelly, we’re good friends. We kick it ? hang out a lot,” the singer coyly revealed. “The industry is very hard, so it’s good to have fun and lighten it up.”
But wait! Ashanti kept going, and she dropped a tiny info bomb when asked he she and her man might be marrying soon. “”Oh no. Noooo! No engagement. But definitely in the future. Ha! Ha!”
Is she teasing us or telling the truth? Either way, we hope there’s a ring involved. [People]
