It’s been a great year and a lot of fun on the set of Big Morning Buzz Live. As the current season draws to a close ahead of summer, Nick Lachey, Jim Shearer and the production staff look back on a number of buzzworthy live performances to pick their favorites of 2014. Everyone from Sam Smith to Pharrell Williams took the stage as Lachey and Shearer introduced fans to the hottest new bands and artists each morning. “This cycle we had some of the best, coolest artists perform in our studio,” says Associate Producer Sofia Gomes. We couldn’t agree more! The show saw no limits to genre, attitude, style and even studios. And nothing really beats The Fray performing on a bus. How is that for a musical version of Snakes on a Plane?

There’s nothing we love than a sweet collaboration between two musical souls and that’s what we got this morning on Big Morning Buzz Live. Host Nick Lachey joined forces with tonight’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Oates on a stripped down, “modern” cover of the Hall & Oates hit song, “Out of Touch.
On Big Morning Buzz Live, Nick Lachey traded in his boy band days for the hair metal world of Steel Panther. He joined the band for an epic performance of “The Burden of Being Wonderful.” We have to admit Sweet Nicky looked pretty sexy rocking alongside lead singer Michael Starr. Sadly, we don’t think Lachey will stick with the look even if it would make for a pretty great change of pace.
On Saturday, March 22nd, Big Morning Buzz Live host and 98 Degrees frontman Nick Lachey partnered with VH1 to give young students a chance to explore their love of music. The network hosted its third annual VH1 Save The Music Foundation Family Day at New York City’s The Anderson School, PS 334. A father himself, Lachey spent the day traveling the halls of PS 334, meeting students and taking hundreds of pictures with fans of all ages. Lachey even had the chance to re-explore his love of the saxophone, an instrument he hasn’t played in nearly 20 years.
On Big Morning Buzz Live, host Nick Lachey and special guest Regis Philbin provided Vanessa Minnillo with special treat. She was the unsuspecting honoree of a duet by the two singers. The whole thing was prompted by a fan who asked if the two men would ever sing together and, of course, Philbin being the showman that he is jumped on the idea. But they couldn’t possibly sing a duet to each other so they found Nick Lachey’s wife, who happened to be in the audience with their son Camden. After she handed off her adorable son, she took center stage and tried hard not to swoon. Watch their performance of Frank Sinatra’s “It Had To Be You” above.
The New Kids on the Block may have lost their most recent tour buddies to the recording studio but it appears they’re still operating under the principle that two (or more) boy bands are better than one. Yes, NKOTB is hitting the road in 2013, and once again they have invited some pals who know what it’s like to have female fans faint in their presence and tattoo their names to their own skin.
Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees will join New Kids on the Block for 28 swoon-worthy nights this summer, akin to those previously confined to our dreams–the kind that usually happen after one two many glasses of red and multiple engagement notifications on Facebook. But this–this!–is why we stick with boy bands through thick and thin: they always come back to us. The group announced the 2013 tour Tuesday morning on The View and is housing all the information you’ll ever need on the subject in a neat and devilishly-named site called The Package. Allow your mind to wander…

As we near the end of our celebration of MTV’s 30 birthday, we figured it would be apropos to look back at thirty of the moments that defined the channel. Now, we easily could’ve listed 30,000 reasons why we love our MTV, but we’ll just have to wait until MTV’s 30,000th birthday to publish that list. For now, enjoy this cornucopia of memorable reality shows, groundbreaking music videos, hilarious interviews, jaw-dropping moments of violence, and celebrity beef.
30) Kurt Loder Prevents A Full-On Brawl Between Madonna and Courtney Love
The scene: The 1995 Video Music Awards. During a post-show interview with the unflappable Kurt Loder, Madonna gets pelted with a compact thrown by the Queen of Grunge, Courtney Love. (Heroin-fueled) hilarity and awkwardness ensues.
29) “Paint The Mutha Pink”
This memorable promo for a 1984 MTV contest was pegged to the release of John Cougar Mellencamp’s album, Uh Huh, which featured the eighties heartland anthem “Pink Houses.” The grand prize winner received a house in Bloomington, Indiana (Mellencamp’s hometown), which came with a special paint job: Pink.
28) Totally Pauly
Hey buhhh-deeee, don’t go weezin’ all the juice! After landing a gig as a VJ in 1989, Pauly Shore went from being an unknown stand-up to a major motion picture star inside of two years.
Big surprise – the stars of MTV’s Meet The Barkers are calling it quits for realsies this time. After shooting their reality – "look at us we’re a normal married couple with kids, tattoos and millions of dollars" – show about wedded bliss, the pair split, reconciled, and have now split again, for good. And good riddance to them! They join a slew of other couples who popped upon MTV together and in love only to find themselves bitten by the "We’re so happy together" reality TV show curse. Think we’re lying? Look who else has felt the black magic:
Hot Shots: Cool Pics From Celebville
Check out this video of Nick getting p*ssed off at a pesky photographer while at the airport. The paparazzo allegedly said something crude about Vanessa as they walked by, so after escorting his lady friend out of harm’s way, the sensitive singer takes that giant tattooed arm and puts it to good use on the guy’s neck.
I’m all for chivalry, but couldn’t Minnillo have defended herself? We all know she’s got mad skills in the weapons department.
