Some of our favorite pop stars weren’t timid about turning up the heat in their music videos this year. Nicki Minaj steamed up the jungle (and other things) when she gave Drake a rousing lap dance, J.Lo yachted with a dozen chiseled papis—and went cheek-to-cheek with Iggy Azalea, and T.I. vacationed in Rio with a gaggle of beauties (none of whom were mediocre, of course). 2014 was a memorable year for sexy videos, indeed.
We can always rely on music to give us little nuggets of wisdom…and sometimes to say utterly crazy things. Lyrics are so entertaining because sometimes they articulate exactly how we feel, and sometimes they’re so far out there they make us think, get mad, or at the very least laugh and go, “WTF?” 2014 was filled with lyrics that filled all categories, and we’ve got the best of the best (and worst) here for you.
From Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe malfunction at the VMAs to Ariana Grande’s much meme-d Victoria’s Secret show performance and even Lady Gaga‘s mid-set vomit stunt, 2014 wasn’t lacking in controversial onstage moments. And there was even a fair share of uplifting, iconic performances, like Beyoncé’s Vanguard performance at the VMAs and Miley Cyrus teaming up with the Flaming Lips for Conan (genius). Check out our year in memorable music performance below…
Nicki Minaj’s third studio album The Pinkprint is considered by many her most emotional and personal project to date. To further promote the album, she flexes her acting chops in a new 16 minute short film called The Pinkprint. Created and starring Nicki, the film is divided into three parts: “The Crying Game,” “I Lied” and “Grand Piano,” each a song off of the The Pinkprint album. Co-starring Will Monfret and Boris Kodjoe, emotions run high throughout the video as Nicki deals with heartbreak, insecurities, and a bad breakup.
Last night Nicki Minaj sat down with Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com for her #CRWN interview, an in-depth monthly series with hip hop’s greatest. Queen Barbz dropped her long awaited third album, The Pinkprint, this week and became the first female artist to grace the #CRWN stage. The crowd went insane as Ms. Minaj stepped out, rapping her lyrics and turning the room into a mini concert. After the lively beginning, the interview was among her most personal yet—and here’s what we learned.
Taylor Swift made a toy company a lot of money thanks to her star studded birthday party, Nicki Minaj shows off adorable high school pictures, The Band Perry knocks their cover of “Gentle on my Mind” out of the park and more on First Dibs.
Nicki Minaj’s third studio album The Pinkprint is finally out and we’re celebrating by taking a look at 15 of her best verses through the years. From collaborating with Beyoncé with a remix of “Flawless” to showing up Rich Homie Quan, Lil Wayne, and Meek Mill in “My N-gga,” Nicki has proven that she is the Rap Queen (at least of 2014). Read on for a list of Barbie’s game-killing verses!
Hyper sexualization in pop music is nothing new, but in 2014 we saw the booty at the forefront of sexuality in performance. When Nicki Minaj is rapping about her butt and Beyoncé is getting drunk in love, it follows that that the stage wear for these performances match subject matter with its risqué, bare-all derriere and cleavage.
We hope you had your DVR on record last night, or else you would of missed Nicki Minaj‘s SportCenter takeover. The raptress appeared alongside host Kenny Mayne to promote her new album, The Pinkprint, as well as drop her new single “Win Again.” Queen Barb also showed off her touchdown dance, threw some footballs, shared insight on her favorite athletes, critiqued Kenny’s choice of slippers, and (of course) took some selfies.
