What were some of the highlights from the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle? One Direction‘s Liam Payne has a fire in his London apartment, and performers from this year’s MTV Video Music Awards see sales bumps for their records.
In the new documentary, This Is Us, One Direction takes us behind the scenes on their recent world tour and opens up about who they are as a band. However, This Is Us isn’t the first time the boys have had the cameras following them.
Most everyone knows that One Direction started out on the UK version of X Factor, but unless they watched that reality show as obsessively as we (and most Directioners) do, they might not have picked up on some really weird and fascinating parts of the boy band’s origin story.
Did you know that a sea urchin almost destroyed the group? Or that One Direction was this close to having a Welsh member? Or that One Direction might never had existed if not for the benevolence of Katy Perry?
The public simply “can’t stop” talking about twerk goddess Miley Cyrus and her eye-opening performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and this includes One Direction. VH1 caught up with 1D members Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson at the premiere of their upcoming documentary, This Is Us, (out Friday, August 30) and the trio offered up an interesting take on what exactly should be considered a guilty pleasure: “Miley Cyrus,” Liam said with a smile. “That’s topical!” Louis added.
They make girls scream, guys invest in styling product, and the whole world attempt awkward choreo (cue the “Bye Bye Bye” wave thingie). Boy bands are righteous! But most of them cannot dress, let’s be clear. In a summer where they’re hotter than ever — One Direction, 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys, Boyz II Men, and New Kids on the Block are all on tour — let’s have a giggle at the fifteen most ridic guy-group ensembles ever, shall we?
