From The Andrews Sisters To Pussy Riot, The Most Influential Girl Groups Of All Time

To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re taking a look back at decades of all-female musical groups. Through pop, punk, rap, rock, and everything in between, we go all the way to the 1940s when The Andrews Sisters harmonized for the troops during World War II, to the 1960s when bee-hived singers helped shape the sounds of Phil Spector and Motown, to the 1990s when Destiny’s Child mobilized fellow women to demand respect and Sleater-Kinney put feminism at the fore, ushering in the riot grrrl-inspired Pussy Riot.

Friday Face-Off: t.A.T.u. Vs. Pussy Riot

Game time! The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics are well underway, and we think it’s pretty cool. Yeah, that was a winter “cool” pun. Since Russia is already in the spotlight this week for their celebration of sports, we’ve decided to branch out the Russian achievements and look at their musical success. t.A.T.u. and Pussy Riot are two marvelous (and outspoken) bands that have emerged from this  chilly country of borsht and blinis, and we thank them for all they’ve donated to the sphere of melodic madness. So vote now and tell us whether t.A.T.u.’s video for “All The Things She Said” or Pussy Riot’s “Punk Prayer – Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!” is your favorite.
