TLC Plans VH1 Biopic And Their First New Album In 10 Years

TLC is coming back. 10 years after their last album, 10 years after Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes passed away in a tragic car accident, the BBC is reporting that the girls are planning a comeback complete with a scripted VH1 biopic and a brand new album.

Despite the gaping hole in their line-up, T-Boz has assured that the heart and soul of TLC still remains. “We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time,” she said at the Mobo Awards in Liverpool. Rumors are swirling that the band might bring Left Eye out in hologram form on tour, which Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas addressed in an interview. “It will be hard on us, but I certainly think our fans would love to see it,” says Thomas, 41. “I think we would probably pass out, and all of our fans would break down, but it’s amazing how real the hologram looks. It’s almost like you can touch the person.”

The biopic was announced in December of 2011 (check out our fantasy line-up right here), but there is still not a firm premiere date set in place.

TLC’s T-Boz To Star In A Reality Series On TLC

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, of the celebrated ’90s all-girl hip-hop crew TLC, announced this morning that she is getting a reality television of her own. The show will be called “Totally T-Boz,” and will air on — why not? — TLC beginning in 2013. According to TMZ’s report, the series will follow T-Boz as she juggles single motherhood and her recent health issues, and as she makes an attempt at relaunching her long dormant music career.

The greedy TLC fans that we are, we are thrilled to hear that T-Boz is staging a comeback; and given her recent financial troubles, the regular check the show could provide sounds like a fine bonus. However, we are not so confident that Go-Go juice can do for her career what it has done for that of  Honey Boo Boo child, and so as cute as the TLC on TLC match-up may be, we do have to wonder if there might be a network more fit to suit her comeback needs. Is Left Eye Coming Back In Hologram Form?

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of the tragic passing of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and TLC fans spent the day both celebrating her life and mourning her loss. Capitalizing on the media attention, a spokesperson for Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas announced yesterday that TLC is currently making plans for a “massive reunion tour” of the United States later this year. Does this mean that Left Eye will be coming back, a la Tupac, in hologram form?

Well, not exactly. According to a report by TMZ, the surviving members of TLC plan to incorporate Left Eye into their concerts by “projecting her image on a big screen and working her vocals into the live performances.” Now, we love us some TLC —always have, always will— but this leaves us wondering:

Celebrating The Life of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes 10 Years After Her Untimely Death

Ten years ago today, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was taken from the world far too soon in a tragic car accident in La Ceiba, Honduras. She lived a vibrant life in her short 30 years. Left Eye was the eclectic rapper in the influential trio TLC with members Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins. Selling over 50 million records worldwide, TLC is the second best selling American female girl group of all time. Outspoken and incredibly cool, the tattooed bad girl was captivating from the moment we laid eyes on her. She was among the new wave of female artists who determined for herself what identity she wanted in the industry. And we loved her for her unapologetic authenticity.

In 2002, Left Eye traveled to Honduras for a spiritual retreat away to take a break red carpets, media and her troubled relationship. Surrounded by close friends, Left Eye recorded the journey of what would be her last days. Lopes’ family granted VH1 her personal film archive, which was used to make the Last Days of Left Eye documentary in May 2007. For her musical contributions, accomplishments and fearlessness to be herself, we honor her. Gone too soon but never forgotten.

Which Actresses Should Play T-Boz, Left Eye And Chilli In VH1′s Upcoming TLC Movie?

If you weren’t a TLC fan in the 90s, you were either asleep for a decade or not born yet, and for both we’re willing to forgive you (and we hope you’re well-rested or enjoying your youth, respectively). Needless to say, we were massive TLC creeps and still are, so we’re pretty excited that our network, in collaboration with surviving band members, Chilli and T-Boz, have announced they’ll be making a scripted TLC bio-pic that will air on VH1. Obviously, we’re absolutely thrilled at the news, and have already started speculating as to what events in the history of TLC that this highly anticipated movie will cover. For now, though, we’re going to play casting director and make some suggestions as to who should play the some of the CraziestSexiestCoolest singers in music history…

CHILLI – SOLANGE KNOWLES
Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas was the quiet one, as far as quiet goes when you’re part of TLC. Solange is much the same, the quiet sister, or as quiet as a sister can be when she’s a Knowles. Not to be confused with shy, Chilli has this cool nonchalance that made her slightly enigmatic with this completely intriguing, subtle sex appeal. And she still had attitude, buckets of it — but she gave you this sense that she wasn’t giving you everything, although what she was giving was so beguiling you were always hankering for more. Enter Solange, whose soft harmonies we’d love to hear accompanying T-Boz’s gravelly voice. Both women give the impression that there’s so much more to them than meets the eye…
