It’s the most wonderful time of the year! After successfully putting the national nightmare that is Black Friday firmly in the rearview, it’s time to move forward and focus on the important stuff … like listening to tons of Christmas carols while decking your halls with bows of holly. Savvy artists have long understood that releasing an album comprising solely of holiday tunes is a relatively easy way to make a buck (not to mention fulfilling one’s pesky record contract), which is why virtually every singer of note has released at least one of these LPs throughout their career.
The Soul Train Awards 2013 aired on BET last night. The program was hosted by Anthony Anderson and honored all that is good and golden in the land of soul and R&B. Not so good and golden? Some of the outlandish outfits that the night’s biggest stars sported on stage–and the red carpet. We’re sad to say that we’re looking at you, K. Michelle…
I’m flashing back to the year 2005 and the celebration of one of my thirty-something birthdays with my twin sister. We were in Madison Square Garden for an Alicia Keys concert, and that evening’s opening act was John Legend. We’d become familiar with his music by way of his Get Lifted album, and it was a treat to start off the evening with this gifted and talented artist at the piano, just at the inception of his promising career. Well, I’m here to tell you that with the release of his latest album Love in the Future and its tour, John Legend has not only arrived, but he’s giving us all the reasons to pray to the music gods that he stays around for a long, long time.
Tamar Braxton and John Legend each have new albums out that share their takes on that powerful four-letter word that makes our worlds go round—Love and War and Love In The Future, respectively—and now the two have joined forces for what is sure to be a must-see tour this fall. Tamar recently stopped by the VH1 headquarters to discuss her upcoming tour, as well as her two new loves—her son Logan Vincent Herbert, and her album Love and War, the title track of which Tamar says is the soundtrack to her relationship with her hubby and manager Vince.
Tamar Braxton dropped by the VH1 offices earlier today for an exclusive Very VH1 Spreecast chat and dished on her upcoming music video for her new single, “Hot Sugar”. Tamar revealed to us that the video contains “a lot of fashion moments, a lot of life moments and it’s very necessary.” That sounds like exactly the kind of video we want to see right now, but we’ll have to live with the anticipation a little while longer. The full video won’t be out until later this month (in the meantime catch a sneak peek here.)
Tamar Braxton‘s new LP, Love And War, just dropped today and seems poised to make a big splash on the charts. A quick glance at the iTunes Album Charts this afternoon shows the album holding firmly onto the #3 spot, which makes us even more excited to get the chance to sit with the R&B star tomorrow afternoon, September 4, for a Very VH1 Spreecast.
