Friday Face-Off: The Wanted Vs. One Direction

Okay, guilty confession: I’ve got a summer crush on The Wanted and One Direction. These steamy guys with the dreamy eyes could sing me an Olive Garden menu and I’d fall to pieces. So ditch the high temps, sneak into a room with some cranked AC and vote to tell us if you think The Wanted’s “Glad You Came” or One Direction’s “Kiss You” deserves the title of studliest summer music video. Pitbull “Feels This Moment” With Christina Aguilera And “Has Some Fun” With The Wanted

Party president of the 305 Pitbull has a new album called Global Warming out next week, and on it he’ll be joined by some of pop music’s biggest names, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Usher and Chris Brown included. There’s got to be something on here for everyone. Two tracks made there way onto the internet last night, the Christina Aguilera collaboration, “Feel This Moment,” and “Have Some Fun,” featuring the The Wanted and superstar DJ Afrojack. And worry not that Mr. Worldwide may switch things up for lucky album number seven — Global Warming will be perfect kindling for all the season’s parties. It’s going to be a hot fall after all.

The Wanted Get Their Groove Back With “I Found You”

In this recent resurgence of boy bands, The Wanted and One Direction have so far been together in leading the way. Like *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys but British, they’ve traded singles and left fans conflicted as to who is cuter. Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards didn’t exactly paint an equal picture of the two, though, with One Direction taking the stage as performers and several more times as winners, while The Wanted were there only as presenters. Today, though, The Wanted have made up for last night’s less than spectacular showing with a huge new single.

The new song, “I Found You”  was produced by Steve Mac, the same guy who co-wrote their smash hit “Glad You Came.” Consequently, it sounds like “Glad You Came” — but unleashed. Early on, “I Found You” is built around those same bouncy synths and drum machine, but, a few beats in, the song swerves into something much bigger and more insistent. The chorus is finding a life-saving sort of love in the “darkest hour” or “pouring rain” or “when I was on my knees,” and is sung in an extra-falsettoed chorus. Whereas “Glad You Came” favors equally the beat and vocals, “I Found You” seems  to give the boys more space to work their chops. As a result, it’s got a more soul, and sounds almost like an R&B song as remixed for a hot and hazy Ibiza late-night. And like that, they’ve got their groove back. Read more…

The Wanted, PSY, John Mayer And Walk The Moon Rock MTV’s Pre-VMA Party

Excitement turned way up in anticipation of tonight’s big show, things got a little wild at MTV’s pre-VMA bash last night. The evening was headlined by notoriously hard-partying Justin Bieber pals The Wanted, who surprised the crowd by inviting fellow Scoot Braun signee PSY onstage for a little “Gangnam Style” action. Afterwards, the boys took the occasion of band member Max George‘s birthday as an opportunity to shove a cake in his face at the end of their set. Glad you came? Read more…
