While Beyoncé captivated our attention and manipulated all our senses there was other music to be heard in New Orleans over the weekend. Justin Timberlake was the entertainment of choice at bajillionaire Mark Cuban’s DirecTV party on Saturday night, jumping ahead of his Grammy performance by seven days because no one in this world likes to stick to previously announced dates. JT took the stage as a featured solo performer for the first time in years–excluding pop-up performances at his BBQ joint–debuting “Suit & Tie” live (with Jay-Z!) and revealing two more new songs from his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience. Yes, the flawless, throwback wardrobe helps, but at this point it seems hard for Justin Timberlake to convey any other than an effortless cool (MySpace projects included).
Yesterday’s press conference was further proof that Sunday is a Beyoncé concert with a little bit of athletic competition on the side. With all that’s been said–and repeatedly questioned–about her potential lip-synching last week, along with the halftime show’s ability to ignite minor scandals family-first viewers can’t seem to let go of (wave hello, M.I.A.!) we thought it was only to fair to compose of list of things that could happen during the big show–as well a handful of dream scenarios we desperately hope will come true, but are willing to settle for having play out in our twisted minds until the end of time.
We’re still a few days away from kickoff, so why not play along at home? Do your homework, keep track of this list during the show, and tell us if we are brilliant or simply outstanding for putting this all together come Monday morning.
It’s so much more than a weirdly tropical Hump Day here in New York City. The funny minds over at Saturday Night Live are letting you–yes, you–make a case for the musical guest you think deserves a shot on the late-night program. No promise on whether they’ll listen, but #SNLMusic Suggestion Day, as you’ve always dreamed, is finally here.

20 years! Boy bands never really left though, so cue the legion of BSB diehards tweeting until their fingers turn blue:
While they present very logical arguments–and we fully support celebrating any anniversary with china–we have a few ideas of our own. Read more…
We saw you nervously sweating over Justin Timberlake‘s multiple appearances at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but there’s no need to worry: JT’s musical comeback continues, now with a scheduled performance at this year’s Grammy Awards on February 10. And you know Anne Hathaway is excited (and probably Taylor Swift–why let a good opportunity for the surprise face go to waste?).
First a lyric video that shows an almost equal amount of words to suave shots of a certain someone getting their sexy back (again), and now a release date that’s less than two months away?! JT, you’re spoiling us. Justin Timberlake‘s third album, The 20/20 Experience, will be released on March 19, something those with killer eyesight and concentration most likely caught during their first viewing of the new “Suit & Tie” clip. The date flashes onscreen at the tail end of the video, coming and going very, very quickly (around 5:20). But since it’s part of an official product created by the man himself, we have no choice to believe him. And be outrageously, perhaps irrationally, excited about it.
After a quick, 30-second tease that was tearing up our heart, we’re pleased to give you the real thing. Justin Timberlake‘s official lyric video for “Suit & Tie Featuring JAY Z” dropped this morning, while you were happily living out your own superstar fantasies in dream land. Handsome JT continues to look handsome in the full clip, be in whether he’s slowly driving along the sunny streets of Los Angeles en route to his day job or posing for multiple flashing lights. It’s a way to see how the sausage gets made–the sausage being a talented multi-Grammy winner who needs little help prepping for a photo shoot and shares our passion for playing the air trumpet. There are plenty of fancy, titular objects to ogle as Timberlake goes through the process of getting dressed, the camera slowly scanning every inch of his dapper ensemble, pausing on his wedding ring–hi, Jessica–for better or for worse.
Justin Timberlake‘s grand return to music has not been without some teasing. He wanted to make sure he was ready, and that we were waiting patiently, willing to give him our full attention. As if there was any other choice! Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie Featuring JAY Z” has already done monster sales since premiering online on January 13. And in preparation for what appears to be a full-blown return to making music–yay!–via one hotly anticipated album, The 20/20 Experience, Tuner has a first look at the official lyric video for his new single.
But it’s not your standard clip. Defying expectations that this should just be a bunch of words flashing across the screen, Timberlake himself cruises down Hollywood Boulevard spanning the busy streets of Los Angeles and the hallowed Hills Lauren and Heidi know all too well, to go about his business. Since he’s been gone for much more than a minute, it’s generous of Justin to show us what he’s been up to lately–and, the least he can do after our wedding invitation got lost in the mail.
Now that 2012 is firmly in the rearviewmirror, it’s time to look forward with hope and optimism as to what the year 2013 holds in store for music fans like us. Considering that we’re not even three weeks into January and we’ve already been blessed with two delightful surprises —A new Destiny’s Child song! A new Timberlake jam!— we feel confident that this is going to be another banner year filled with an abundance of both monster pop smashes and crossover gems.
With that in mind, the VH1 Tuner team has put together this list of 13 of our most anticipated albums for 2013, which includes a healthy mix of familiar faces (Beyoncé, Lady Gaga) and artists on the come-up (Big Sean, Diane Birch), brought to you in the order of when we expect them to release their new material.
Tegan and Sara, Heartthrob (Expected Release Date: January 29): Sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have long been staples at alternative radio, but the synth-driven Heartthrob appears like it might be the LP that finally breaks them into the mainstream consciousness. “We really look at this as an opportunity to stretch into a world that we’ve been just outside of for a long time,” Sara recently told our VH1 News crew, and one listen to the album’s lead single, “Closer,” seems to be indicative of the fact that they’ve reached their goal.—Mark Graham
The proverbial streets still have love for JT. There’s so much agape for Justin Timberlake‘s new single “Suit & Tie” that Billboard predicts the single may sell as many as 400,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, January 20. Considering the song set the Internet ablaze only a little over 48 hours ago, it’s clear JT’s resurgence after a six year hiatus from music was absolutely long overdue. Read more…
After tricking us with a Twitter stunt last week, Justin Timberlake dropped his latest musical offering just before midnight on Monday, catching the lingering Golden Globes crowd on Twitter just in time to launch an onslaught of mixed reactions about his decision to make music his priority once again. Like Destiny’s Child‘s latest song “Nuclear”, Timberlake’s new song “Suit and Tie” didn’t instantly grab us and transport us to a world of magical Timbaland beats and inventive blends of pop, R&B and soul, but it is a welcomed return filled with slick grooves and familiar musings on style, sex and having a good time.
