When Cuffing Season Gets Sticky: Crushing On Someone Who’s Already Taken

If you thought yesterday’s Doin’ It Well playlist geared toward freaks was a tad scandalous, today’s Cuffin Season topic might really send your moral compasses whirling. In matters of the heart, we sometimes can’t control where our affections land, amiright? And in some instances, brewing feelings for someone who’s already in a relationship can be an unexpected reality that hits your bubble of awareness after it’s too late.

What’s the code of ethics to abide by when your heart and loins are telling you one thing, and your mind’s screaming the opposite? I’m no moral arbiter, but I do know one thing: whether the apple of your eye has been happily taken for years or is in the midst of a rocky separation from their significant other, wanting to scoop up someone who’s already cuffed is never an easy set of circumstances to end up in. The situations vary for everyone, too! Maybe your crush has no idea that you’re silently swooning in their presence, or maybe they’re aware of your feelings and have been stringing you along for months, dangling a I’ll-be-single-soon carrot in front of your face. Perhaps they’re recently single, but are still moping and fawning over their ex. Maybe they sincerely care for you and see a future together, but have been stuck in a repetitive break-up-to-make-up cycle that, from your vantage point, seems unlikely to end soon. Any of this drama sounding familiar, or am I just projecting?

Trey Songz Gets Personal And Delivers Love, Sex & Relationship Advice To Five Lucky Fans

In the wake of his fifth studio album Chapter V dropping today (and already #1 at iTunes), Trey Songz has us feeling a little warm and fuzzy here at VH1! Making time to visit our offices this week, Trey not only performed on Big Morning Buzz Live and made the VH1 staff squeel in delight at the very sight of him, he also helped us take to Twitter and see if any of his followers needed some direct-to-fan nurturing. That’s right: the man whose neighbors know his name and allegedly invented sex spent some time ruminating on the love-troubles of five others, and even got a bit personal, divulging his thoughts on the future of his love life and when he might want to start a family.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Nas Says ‘Hip-Hop Has Died Many Deaths,’ Doesn’t Get The Respect It Deserves

Six years ago Nas‘ conviction on the state of hip-hop–he believed it was dead–left several of his peers disgruntled and defensive. Ticking rap heads off aside, Hip Hop Is Dead charted at No. 1. How’s that for a non-response to the critics? On the day of his 10th album release for Life Is Good, VH1 talked with the master storyteller to find out what he thought about hip-hop today. Obviously the backlash years ago didn’t phase him because he said if he felt the genre was in trouble again, he’d say it. Again. Although he doesn’t think it’s dead right now, he thinks it has died many deaths. Read more…

Trey Songz Is In Love, And It’s “Simply Amazing”

Trey Songz is in love. Well, at least he is in the video to “Simply Amazing” from the upcoming Chapter V release. Trigga man is all about sensuality, affection and adoration as he sings, “She ain’t perfect, but she’s worth it.” Off the beautiful shore of the beach Trey carries his woman around playfully, gazing at the blue ocean as a couple. They cuddle and bike ride together; and when they’re apart a quick video chat is in order. It’s all so reminiscent of the butterflies in one’s stomach feeling during the early days of something new. The cuteness of this video will make single ladies wish they had their very own Trey while the men will contemplate making it official up with one of their summer beaus. But that feeling may only last for a quick minute before it’s back to the benefits of being free in the summer, summer, summertime. At least Trey made love look sexy, even if only temporarily. To this end, we’ve put together a list of all the songs featured on our network in June — from artists like Timomatic, Emeli Sande, and up-and-comer Elle King. D’Angelo Continues His Re-Emergence On The Essence Music Festival Stage

Each year in early July, the city of New Orleans welcomes fans of R and B, soul, and gospel music to flood its streets and enjoy three days of empowerment panels and concerts at Essence Music Festival. Listeners of all ages can take to the Mercedes Benz Superdome and find something they like, be it budding stars like yesterday’s blues-infused Gary Clark Jr. performing at one of the festival’s Superlounges, 70s and 80s family-trio The Pointer Sisters kicking off the main stage headliners, or Trey Songz, a radio-friendly artist who makes young girls and their mothers scream uncontrollably as he slowly disrobes on stage with each passing song in his set.

After The Pointer Sisters, last night’s main stage headliners shifted to Keyshia Cole and Trey, the former of which was likely booked to help promote her new BET reality show and upcoming album since she’s been on hiatus from making music while starting her family with husband, NBA player Daniel Gibson. Woman To Woman, Cole’s fifth studio record, is expected to be released in the Fall. Trey too has an upcoming album to promote; also his fifth LP, the August 21st release is aptly titled Chapter V. The highlight of the evening, however, was a set from neo-soul crooner D’Angelo.

Trey Songz And T.I. Only Came To The Club For “2 Reasons”

There’s only two reasons Trey Songz and T.I. are at the club–”the b*ches and the drinks.” And like any club scene there’s bottle popping, cupcakes and big booty women in heels in the Benny Boom directed video to Trey Songz’s second single “2 Reasons” from his forthcoming album Chapter V. Made for the club, “2 Reasons” is to Chapter V what “Bottoms Up” was to Passion, Pain & Pleasure . The difference between the two is that “Bottoms Up” automatically drew you in with its edgy R&B dance sound whereas “2 Reasons” is bit more popish, a lot less catchy. Both work for its intended purposes–to get people on their feet dancing. Read more…

Waka Flocka Flame And Trey Songz Hijack Art Auction In “I Don’t Really Care” Video

There’s something about Waka Flocka Flame that gets you mad amped for no reason. The new video for “I Don’t Really Care,” directed by Taj, is no different. Trey Songz joins Waka for a flossed out record in which they want everyone to know they’re balling, and have money, and chicks everywhere. But being “baller of the year” didn’t illicit the usual club scene video where stacks of money are thrown in the air. Instead, in this treatment, Waka is a businessman —albeit an illegal one—responsible for the heist of a back alley art auction. Hostages are tied up and art is smashed. We’re not quite sure how the art being destroyed correlates with Waka’s big payoff, but we’re rocking with it.

Who Made The Best Cameo On B.O.B.’s Strange Clouds?

B.o.B. Strange Clouds - Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Morgan Freeman

B.o.B. continues to think outside the box with his sophomore album, Strange Clouds. Elements of various musical genres —from hip-hop to jazz to country— can be heard throughout. The singer, songwriter, rapper and producer skyrocketed to success with his two monster smashes “Nothin’ On You” and “Airplanes”, both crossover tracks that featured somewhat unlikely artists singing the hook (Bruno Mars and Hayley Williams, respectively). Based on how commercially successful each of these songs were, it seems as if B.o.B. is eager to try replicate their success, as he’s recruited a number of collaborators for tracks on his new album. Whether they are household names like Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, or newcomers like Lauriana Mae, the variety of artists on the album is quite impressive. We ranked each of the songs that feature other artists, and it’s not what you’d expect.

9. “Strange Clouds” feat. Lil Wayne – We don’t know what’s up with Weezy, but his flow hasn’t quite been the same since he got outta the joint. A song about partying, drinking and smoking all night has to have an element to it that makes the listener want to partake in the fun. We don’t know if it’s believable here.

8. “Out Of My Mind” feat. Nicki Minaj: We’re getting an outer space vibe on this one. And is it just us or did B.O.B. slightly sound like Ludacris? Either way, Nicki does what she does best on this track. She plays with different animated voices, she raps, she sings. Repeat. It’s fine, but it’s nothing transcendent.

7. “Arena” feat. Chris Brown and T.I.: It’s Chris Brown and T.I., folks! Not sure that much else needs to be written other than with this trio we’re certain it will be a fan favorite.
