The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards aired last night and, as always, the show was very entertaining (particularly those cyphers!). It’s refreshing to watch an awards show where penguin suit-wearing attendees aren’t uptight and nervous, but some of the people at the show—we’re looking in your general direction, Joseline Hernandez, Bambi, French Montana and others!—look like they might have gotten dressed after getting a bit tipsy on Ace of Spades. Take a spin through our gallery and let us know if you agree if these hip hop superstars need to step it up next time!
No doubt Love and Hip Hop Atlanta stars Kirk and Rasheeda are still basking in the baby glow of their recent family addition, but a few weeks ago Kirk took a collective public bashing from the likes of Nicki Minaj, countless bloggers, and LHHATL fans worldwide for his raunchy onscreen encounter with some “loose” females. The incident had quite a few folks fluffed at R&B singer Bobby V. as well, since the one night stand occurred at Bobby’s house. Since the steamy episode aired, both Kirk and his partner in crime Benzino have gone on record to try to assuage the situation and conduct damage control.
Love & Hip Hop star K. Michelle nets a big debut on this week’s Nielsen SoundScan albums chart, while Katy Perry‘s “Roar” makes a lot more noise than Lady Gaga‘s “Applause” on the singles chart. #SoundScanner investigates:
K.Michelle is currently best known as one of the hilariously volatile stars of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, but if early word about her fierce new LP Rebellious Soul is any indication, she’s on the verge of becoming one of the biggest stars that R&B and soul music has to offer.
“Sometimes I’m [going to] smack a b–ch with flowers, sometimes I’m [going to] wax a motherf–ker, but I’m still a lady,” K.Michelle told her adoring audience at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on Thursday night. Those who balk at hearing profanity in small spaces clearly haven’t been to a K show before. Seeing the Love And Hip Hop Atlanta star perform live is part comedy show, part therapy session, and, most importantly, a true example of a talented vocalist with personality to spare.
This past Tuesday, May 14, was a good day. I got a chance to kick it with rap veteran and former Ruff Ryder Eve (through the phone) on the official album release day for her first project in 11 years, the much-anticipated Lip Lock. For Eve, it was an activity-laden day filled with seemingly endless phone interviews and appearances, but when I spoke to her, she was absolutely right in the pocket and in her element. During our conversation, not only did Eve share the inspiration for her long-awaited return to music, but also her thoughts on living large in London, sisterhood (or the lack thereof) among female hip-hop artists, collaborating with the likes of fellow female MC Missy Elliott and Snoop Lion, and what she’d say to her former paramour Stevie J if she were to bump into him on the street.
Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta star Stevie J. might be better known these days for being the focal point in a love triangle with Mimi and Joseline, but he’s been making paper for nearly two decades now thanks to his amazing talents as a music producer. And he wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill session guy, either: Mr. Rat Face himself was responsible for some of the biggest hits of the ’90s during his time at Bad Boy Entertainment, where he was P. Diddy‘s go to guy and leader of the Hitmen, a group of in-house producers and writers. Here’s a comprehensive look at STEVIE J’S TOP 10 SMASH HIT SONGS.
During the most dramatic or emotional scenes of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta there’s a song that serves as the soundtrack specific to that situation. Joseline‘s pregnancy test debacle was matched with Trey Songz‘s “Heart Attack.” Mimi drove over Stevie J‘s boxed clothes to Labyrinth’s “Earthquake.” Not only are the songs perfect for what’s going on in each scene, the featured tracks have also put viewers on to artists they may not have been familiar with. We can’t count the number of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta brought me here” comments on the YouTube videos of the songs featured. For your listening pleasure we’ve compiled a list of all the songs featured in season one of LHHATL right here in one place. Thank us later. Read more…
