In two short years Dawes has emerged as one of the finest bands in the folk-rock scene. But to the L.A.-based band they're just an American rock 'n' roll band, four talented friends making music together, fueled by a mutual belief in the power of their songs.
The Los Angeles-based band -- singer/guitarist Taylor Goldsmith, his brother Griffin on drums, keyboardist Tay Strathairn and bassist Wylie Gelber -- continue to master their blend of singer/songwriter reflection with folk, country, and AOR-inspired arrangements, all ringing melancholic guitar and luscious harmonies over earnest melodies. While their '70s Laurel Canyon air has evoked comparisons to illustrious names like Crosby, Nash & Young, the Eagles and Stills.
Along with critical approbation and an ever-growing fan following, Dawes has earned admiration from many of their greatest heroes. Benmont Tench of The Heartbreakers joined the band on organ on two prior studio albums, while "Fire Away" sees guest vocals from Jackson Browne, who has since invited the band to both support and back him on a European tour. And after Taylor Goldsmith contributed vocals to Robbie Robertson's star-studded How To Become Clairvoyant, the legendary guitarist-songwriter asked Dawes to serve as his backing band for a number of promotional performances.
Not bad for just a rock 'n' roll band. Find out more about the four guys that make up this Americana band with the warm, stripped-down, vintage feel.
