Here Are 8 Songs That Summer 2015 Totally Slept On

As the weather begins to get colder by the day, we must admit the inevitable: Summer has come to a close. That's not to say it wasn't a good season either, particularly for music. We saw the rise of The Weeknd (the pop star version, that is), former Disney starlets get their sexy on and, of course, the return of the Biebster. Still, just like any other summer, there was a batch of songs that failed to make the impact that they should have. For that very reason, VH1 has rounded up a list of eight songs that truly deserved to blow up over the last few months, but instead were slept on.

Disclosure featuring Sam Smith - "Omen"

While "Omen" surely isn't as good as Disclosure and Sam's first

collaboration ("Latch"), it certainly deserved more success than it has

received in the last few months. How can anyone not love Sam’s soaring vocals atop that electro blippy beat? Here's to hoping that the song catches on after Caracal drops on September 25.

Alessia Cara - "Here"

Even though the debut single from Alessia Cara was released in April, it just started to gain some momentum towards the end of summer. In late July, this 19-year-old Canadian performed the gritty pop&B song on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and later debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 at the 95 spot. At time of press, the turn down tune (about the dislike for a good ol’ partay) snuck up to the number 58 position on the chart.

Rita Ora featuring Chris Brown - "Body On Me"

For the longest time, I wished that Rita Ora would drop music that actually caught my ears, and her collabo with Breezy was just that. Unfortunately, the song didn’t make the splash that she probably would have hoped for. Still, Rita and Chris filmed a steamy video for the track, and even performed it together on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

A$AP Rocky featuring Miguel, Rod Stewart and Mark Ronson - "Everyday"

I thought that this kind of collaborative effort (even just based off name value) would be enough to propel up the charts. I mean, it’s A$AP turning Rod's 1972 hit "In A Broken Dream" into a ferocious hip hop banger. Plus, Miguel’s on board to put his spin on the classic melody. Guess not.

dumblonde - "tender green life"

There's no denying the quality of these former Danity Kane sister's new songs, including their most recent single "tender green life," which you can find on their self-titled debut LP. With slinky electro-based production and full-on falsetto vocals, it’s a shame that summer slept on this one, but it could also prove fitting right in the middle of the fall season too.

Major Lazer featuring Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley - "Powerful"

It’s baffling to see a song like “Powerful,” which combines several elements of pop, soul and EDM, get paid dust, especially since Ellie and Tarrus sound so hypnotic on the track, but at least we have that entertaining AF diner-ruining clip to cope.

Carly Rae Jepsen - "Run Away With Me"

There's just something about Carly Rae Jepsen that just screams one hit wonder, well to most folks anyway. And yet, all the nostalgic vibes from her thrilling "Run Away With Me," the second single off her sophomore LP, should have changed that perception. This deserved so much more.

Pia Mia featuring Tyga and Chris Brown - "Do It Again"

Pia has the backing of Kanye West and the Kardashians, so you'd think that her Chris Brown and Tyga-assisted duet "Do It Again" would have had a bigger impact, especially since it samples J Boog's easy breezy "Let's Do It Again." Nonetheless, it last made an appearance on the Hot 100 at the number 71 position. Could this be a slow and steady climber? Let’s wait and see.
