Let’s talk about cash money.

Most Americans—80%, to be exact—are in debt. More still are recovering from the trauma of being in debt (it’s very traumatic). As you know, celebrities are just like you and me and in this case, we’re referring to famous people’s tendencies to go into debt. ’Cause when ya make a lot of money, ya spend a lot of money—and sometimes, ya go overboard.

    Kanye West spilled the tea on his bank account last month when he tweeted that he’s $53 million in personal debt, which is, like, the worst kind of debt to be in. But, alas, he did it for his art, a.k.a. fashion line.

    Getty Images
    Teresa Giudice of Real Housewives of New Jersey and her husband had over $13 million in debt back in April of 2014. Teresa served 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of fraud in 2014. Joe is expected to head to prison to serve 41 months for conspiracy and bankruptcy charges beginning on March 23.

    Scott Storch, the man behind such hits as “Baby Boy” by Beyonce and “Cry Me a River” by Justin Timberlake, filed for bankruptcy in June of 2015. The man was once worth $70 million, but claimed this past summer that he only had $3600 worth of assets.

    Toni Braxton, the “Un-break My Heart” songstress whose hits garnered $170 million in worldwide sales, filed for bankruptcy twice. The first time was in 1998, when she claimed to have racked up $3.9 million in debt. The second was in 2010 and she claimed to have owed up to $50 million.

    The state of Lindsay Lohan’s finances had declined so much by 2012 that Charlie Sheen gave her $100,000 so she could pay off the taxes she owed from 2009 and 2010. The child actress and Mean Girls star is reportedly worth $500,000 these days—a drastic decrease from her previous net worth.

    Nicolas Cage was one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors in 2009, earning $40 million that year. Cage’s extravagant spending habits led him to financial problems—he reportedly spent $33 million on various luxurious purchases—and he was eventually hit with a $6.2 million tax lien in 2009.

    Dennis Rodman’s attorney and financial advisor revealed back in 2012 that their client was broke. He reportedly owed $860,376 in child and spousal support and could have faced 20 days in jail if he failed to pay it.

    Fantasia Barrino owed about $65,000 on a loan back in 2009, according to TMZ. North Carolina sheriff deputies tried to reach her about it, but reportedly couldn’t. Barrino later auctioned off her North Carolina home to cover the debt.

    After serving time in prison for dogfighting, Michael Vick was tasked with paying back $18 million worth of debt. He had to hand over two-thirds of every dollar he made to creditors and the government for taxes. He had almost paid everything back by December 2014.

    Stephen Baldwin reportedly failed to file state income-tax returns in 2008, 2009 and 2010. As a result, Baldwin owed the government a grand total of $400,000. He had paid half of that amount by October 2013.
