Celebrities Who We Lost in 2016 (So Far)

Gone but not forgotten.

Though the year is almost over 2016 has rocked us to our core with so many shocking and tragic celebrity deaths. We’ve already seen the loss of several legendary entertainers and iconic personalities who have given so much to pop culture and society for that matter. Though their deaths have inspired countless tributes and renewed popular interest in their work, it’s been a tough year for fans. From music icons to reality stars, we pay tribute to celebrities we’ve said goodbye to this year.

  • 1 Carrie Fisher
    Actress Carrie Fisher, most famously known for her role as “Princess Leia” in the original Star Wars movie, suffered a fatal heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Although the star received immediate medial attention on board the flight, and was rushed to UCLA Medical center after an emergency landing, she unfortunately passed away on December 27 after failing to make a full recovery from her attack. She was 60.

  • 2 Ricky Harris
    Comedian and actor Ricky Harris, best known for his recurring role in the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris sitcom, died of a heart attack on Monday December 26th at age 54. Raised in Long Beach, California, Harris was childhood friend of Snoop Dogg and the late Nate Dogg. Ricky was also known for his stand-up talents, but also went on to appear in TV shows like “Moesha,” and the movies “Heat” and “Dope.”

  • 3 George Michael
    Pop super star George Michael died on December 25 (Christmas). According to family, the singer-songwriter passed away peacefully in bed, while at home in Goring-on-Thames, UK. The international star was part of the music group “Wham!” and rose to fame in the mid-80’s. Ironically, the group was widely known for their holiday hit, “Last Christmas.”

  • 4 Zsa Zsa Gabor
    Zsa Zsa Gabor was a Hungarian-American actress who passed on December 18 at the age of 99. Married nine times, she is survived by her husband, Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt. Her only child and daughter, Francesca Hilton, died last year of a stroke at the age of 67. Zsa Zsa starred in such films as Moulin Rouge and We’re Not Married! Gabor would have turned 100 in February.

  • 5 Florence Henderson
    Florence Henderson passed away on November 24. According to her manager, the beloved Brady Bunch actress and mom died of heart failure. Henderson was best known for her role as Carol Brady. She was 82.

  • 6 Alan Thicke
    Actor Alan Thicke suffered a sudden and tragic death on December 13. The long-time actor and father to singer Robert Thicke suffered a heart attack while playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter. Alan was best known for his role as the beloved TV dad, Dr. Jason Seaver on Growing Pains. He was 69.

  • 7 Anton Yelchin
    Now this was a heartbreaking headline. 27-year-old actor Anton Yelchin, best known for his roles as Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot and Jacob Helm in Like Crazy, passed away in June of this year from a tragic accident. The actor was found dead outside his home, pinned between his car and a brick mailbox. Coroners revealed he died from traumatic asphyxia. Gone too soon.

  • 8 Doris Roberts
    Doris Roberts passed away earlier this year, on April 17. The Everybody Loves Raymond star passed away from complications after suffering a stroke. She was 90.

  • 9 Pat Harrington Jr.
    Pat Harrington died at the top of the year on January 6. Best known for his role as superintendent Schneider on One Day at a Time, the actor suffered a small hemorrhage three weeks prior to his death. He was 86.

  • 10 Nancy Reagan
    Former first lady Nancy Reagan died in March of this year due to heart failure. Prior to serving as the wife of the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, Nancy was an actress who went under the stage name Nancy Davis. She was 94-years-old

  • 11 Patty Duke
    Actress Patty Duke also passed away in March of this year. The long-time actress rose to fame at the age of 16 for her role as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Later she was given her own show, The Patty Duke Show. Unfortunately, she died of sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She was 69.

  • 12 Dan Haggerty
    Daniel Francis Haggerty was an American actor, best known for playing the title role in The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams. He passed away from complications stemming from cancer, which he was diagnosed with only five months prior. The actor was 74.

  • 13 Agnes Nixon
    Queen of soap operas, Anges Nixon, was the creator of All My Children and One Life to Live. She died in September after suffering complications with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 93.

    Bill Nunn was a beloved member of the famed stable of actors who starred in many Spike Lee films. Nunn, who was best known for his role as Radio Raheem in Lee’s Do The Right Thing, passed away at the age of 62.

    “Dey Know” rapper Shawty Lo was killed in a car accident on September 21. The rapper, affectionately dubbed as the “King of Bankhead” was only 40-years-old.

    Transgender activist and actress Alexis Arquette passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 47 on September 11. Details from Arquette’s death certificate reveal that she battled HIV for 29 years.

    Acclaimed actor and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory star Gene Wilder succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s disease on August 29 at the age of 83.

    Hip Hop pioneer and A Tribe Called Quest rapper Phife Dawg died from diabetes related complications on March 22 at the age of 45.
