Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar Opened the 2016 BET Awards, and It Was Jaw-Dropping

I'm crying.

Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar opened up the 2016 BET Awards, and it was mind-blowing.

Queen Bey took the stage first, performing a spirited rendition of her song “Freedom” from Lemonade. Those who know her Formation World Tour recognized the choreography and set. More than a dozen dancers joined Bey on stage to deliver gravity-defying dance moves…in the water. In other words, they were IRL mermaids and mermen. And we’re so here for it.

Bey sounded pitch perfect, and her presence was enough to sustain us for the next 40 years. However, midway through the song, Lamar came out and delivered his rap in the song. It was passionate, bizarre and positively awe-inspiring.

This is, hands down, one of the most electrifying awards show openers in recent memory. Thank you for bringing us closer to Bey, BET. We’re eternally in your debt.
