Child Stars Who Later Became Criminals

What the hell went wrong?

If you ever wished you could’ve been a child star, we recommend you read this list. While the idea of being rich and famous before even getting your driver’s license sounds appealing, the reality of that can be dark, lonely, and — in these nine celebrities’ cases — illegal. While it’s common knowledge Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes are troubled child stars, we decided to do some digging and find people who were once cute…but quickly escalated to total felon status. These aren’t just your run-of-the-mill DUIs, people. Check out nine former kid actors who turned into IRL criminals.

The actor played Brandy’s little brother Myles on the UPN sitcom Moesha from 1996 to 2001. He’s received a DUI since then, but more shockingly was arrested in August 2013 for domestic violence against his then-girlfriend. He struck a plea deal to avoid jail time. [/item

Jake, who played Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, was arrested last Wednesday for reckless driving after going more than 100 miles an hour on Interstate 95….and later crashing into trees. USA Today reports that, as of Sunday, Jake is still in jail. [/item

The actress was famous for playing Kimberly Drummond on Diff’rent Strokes from 1978 to 1986. However, Dana soon found herself unemployed and poverty-stricken. In 1991, she robbed a Las Vegas video store using a pellet gun and was given five years of probation. She spent 30 days in jail for forging a drug prescription in 1992. She committed suicide via a drug overdose in 1999. [/item

You probably remember her as Andrea Winger in the 1984 NBC sitcom Spencer or Sandy Harling in the original cast of Melrose Place. However, her adult life isn’t so cute. In July 2010, she was involved in a fatal car collision that killed a 60-year-old woman and injured her husband. In 2012, she was sentenced to three years in prison. [/item
  • 5 Brian Bonsall
Brian portrayed Andrew “Andy” Keaton on Family Ties from 1986 until 1989 and Alexander Rozhenko on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1992 to 1994. But the once-adorable kid now has quite the temper. In 2010, he plead guilty to felony menacing and third-degree assault for attacking a friend with a bar stool. He also took responsibility for assaulting his girlfriend in 2007. [/item
  • 6 Todd Bridges

Another Diff’rent Strokes kid gone bad. Todd, who played Willis in the series, has endured numerous arrests, including drugs, assault, and even attempted murder (though he was acquitted of that charge). As of 2010, Todd is clean and sober. [/item
  • 7 Edward Furlong

Edward broke out for his performance in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. (He played John Connor.) But his behavior off the set is what he’s become known for. In September 2009, Edward was arrested for allegedly threatening and punching his wife. He was arrested in 2012 on more domestic violence charges filed by a female friend. And then he faced more domestic violence claims in 2013. [/item
  • 8 Christian Slater

The ’80s heartthrob (Heathers, anyone?) has a pretty extensive rap sheet. He’s been convicted of drunk driving, assault, boarding a plane with a gun in his luggage, assault (again), and then — perhaps worst of all — sexual assault in 2005. What happened, J.D.? [/item
  • 9 Jamie Waylett

Yep, actual Crabbe from the Harry Potter film series is a troublemaker. He was arrested for participating in the devastating 2011 England riots. The charges included “violent disorder” and possessing a petrol bomb. Oh, and then throw in some weed charges for good measure. In March 2012, he was sentenced to two years in prison. [/item
