RANK 'EM: Hip Hop Movies From the '90s

Which of these films is in your Top 5?

By Marcus Reeves

The ‘90s were the breakout decade for hip hop films. No longer were they relegated to stories centered around the four components of the culture — ‘80s flicks like Breakin’, Rappin, Wild Style or Crush Groove. Now a hip hop film constituted a movie starring superstar rappers or poignant urban dramas or hilarious and pointed comedies. And quite a few would go on to become box office hits and bonafide classics. Take a look at this list and let us know how you would rank these hip hop cinematic gems.

Check out this sneak peek of the first five minutes of The Breaks series premiere, where DeeVee hears the song he produced with Ahm in public for the first time and Nikki Jones jumps right into the fire on her first day as Barry Fouray’s personal assistant. The Breaks premieres Monday, February 20th + 9/8c on VH1!
