Possibly! The BBC is reporting that Kanye West —hip-hop legend, author, Taylor Swift instigator, Sway TV bestower, and Kim Kardashian baby daddy— is contemplating naming his new album I Am God. The title is said to be “half tongue-in-cheek,” but how accurate is this rumor?
First things first. When it comes to hip-hop credibility, let’s call a spade a spade and admit that the BBC significantly trails whitebred outlets like PBS and HGTV, let alone HipHopDX or Vibe. Next up, E! reached out to a “source” close to Kanye —they do have some inside connex to Yeezy’s inner circle, ya know— who told them the rumor was “not true.”
That said, it’s not as if Kanye’s ego and talent would prevent him from giving his next project such an excitingly blasphemous title. The ensuing controversy that it would stir —think of the protests!— is something that we can imagine he’d take a great deal of pleasure out of. He loves to stir the pot, and we can’t imagine that there are many honey pots that would attract as many buzzing bees as mixing religion and hip-hop. After all, he’s done it before!
So, the question remains:
Would You Buy A Kanye West Album Called “I Am God”?
