We still get a lump in our throats every time we think about the loss of Cory Monteith a little over a week ago. Today, we read Jenna Ushkowitz's Instagram, celebrating "the love and light that Cory shared with the world" and nearly teared up all over again. But with the approach of VH1's Do Something Awards next week, we thought we'd take a moment to remember the Glee star as last year's TV Star Male winner.

We honored Monteith for his work as an ambassador for Richard Branson's Virgin Unite, specifically his efforts to benefit homeless teens and theater programs for underprivileged youth, such as Vancouver's Project Limelight. "It’s out of a project like Limelight that I started acting," he told the Vancouver Sun when he presented the program with $26,550 last year.

By all accounts, Cory never forgot where he came from, and was always sweet and humble with everyone he met. Even as he accepted the silver Do Something sneaker, he made it all about everyone else but himself.

Now, as we continue to miss him, let's look forward to all the other generous stars out there at the 2013 Do Something Awards, next Wednesday, July 31, at 8 pm ET.
