Woman Slain At Phil Spector's Mansion Identified

Police on Tuesday identified the victim of the fatal shooting at producer Phil Spector's mansion the day before as 40-year-old actress Lana Clarkson.
Spector was arrested on Monday (see
"Producer Phil Spector Arrested In Connection With Slaying") and later released on $1 million bail, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesperson.
Authorities would not comment on Spector's relationship with Clarkson, a B-movie star of such cult classics as "Deathstalker" and "Barbarian Queen," although sources told the Los Angeles Times the two met the night before.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesperson said investigators were called to Spector's gated estate in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra about 5 a.m. on Monday by a limousine driver who reported hearing shots fired after he dropped off the couple in Spector's Mercedes-Benz.
Police found Clarkson's body sprawled in the marble foyer and also discovered a gun that they believe was used to kill her.
Spector and Clarkson were the only people believed to be in the mansion, according to authorities, who said Spector did not confess to the crime.
Attorney Robert Shapiro, whose clients include O.J. Simpson, is defending Spector, but told reporters late Monday he knew too little about the case to comment.
Aside from B-movies like "Amazon Women on the Moon," Clarkson also appeared in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Scarface" and worked in stand-up comedy and volunteered for a meal delivery program for people with the HIV virus, according to her Web site, www.livingdollproductions.com.
Spector, the producer behind such hits as John Lennon's "Imagine," Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" and the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," most recently produced a track for Starsailor (see "Phil Spector: Mad Genius, By Kurt Loder").
