NEW YORK — In the year of 50 Cent and Chingy, Queens of the Stone Age will cash in on the popularity of money themes with the mouthful of a third single "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire." The "I don't usually sing other people's songs, but I was honored to on this one," Oliveri said last week at Radio City Music Hall, a day before Queens won Best Special Effects in a Video at the Video Music Awards. "It kind of grooves, but it's heavy. It's a punch in the face. It's one of those 'we're gonna be making our next record soon' singles." For the video, the group will likely do the same thing they did for their third single in Europe, "First It Giveth," and let British photographer Nigel Copp piece together a live clip. Copp, who has been traveling with Queens of the Stone Age since the band formed in 1998, is also compiling footage for a DVD. "We did some professional recording and filming in England," Oliveri said of the project. "The U.K.'s been our strongest supporter, so we wanted to do it there. We did five shows throughout the U.K. We did hour-and-40-minute sets, with a couple of songs not on the records, so we have a good amount of stuff to choose from." While plans are still coming together for the video, it will likely be released before Queens' next album, which the band will begin recording in February, despite having all the material already written (see "Queens 'Giveth' Third Single, But No New Songs This Summer"). "We have a problem saying no to shows," Oliveri said in explaining the delay. The band has a tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers scheduled for September and a headlining trek on the calendar for October. The outings will be punctuated by a special Halloween show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles with Tomahawk, Masters of Reality and the Cramps. "I think we should be the Village People," Oliveri mused. "Josh should be the biker, [guitarist] Troy [Van Leeuwen] should be the cop, [drummer] Joey [Castillo] should be the Indian, which means I have to be the construction worker." After breaking into "Y.M.C.A." (or not), the Queens will take a break and spend the rest of the year concentrating on side projects. Homme has volumes nine and 10 of Desert Sessions and a band called Eagles of Death Metal due, singer Mark Lanegan has another solo album scheduled called Bubblegum, and Van Leeuwen's recording with a band called Enemy (see "Queens Of The Stone Age To Release Four Side-Project Albums This Year").
