cast in the pilot for a sitcom called "Hot Mamma," according to a spokesperson for the network.

The show will star "Cocktail" and "Showgirls" actress Gina Gershon as a hip wedding planner and single mom raising a conservative daughter. Lachey will play a struggling actor named Cooper who runs errands for the women in exchange for free rent.

Amy Hill, who had supporting roles in "50 First Dates" and "Cheaper by the Dozen," has signed on to play the housekeeper, but the daughter role has yet to be cast.

Suzanne Martin, a former writer and producer for "Fraiser," is creating "Hot Mamma" based on her own experiences raising a daughter in Los Angeles. Martin's last sitcom was 2001's "Maybe It's Me" with "Saturday Night Live" alum Julia Sweeney.

Lachey has recently made guest appearances on NBC's "American Dreams" and ABC's "I'm With Her," but if "Hot Mamma" is picked up for a season, it will be his first regular acting gig.

Along with the sitcom, Lachey has also teamed with ABC for a variety special co-starring wife Jessica Simpson (see "Mr. T, Jewel To Appear On 'Nick & Jessica Variety Hour' "). Simpson has a sitcom pilot in the works for the network as well (see "Starring Jessica Simpson As ... Jessica Sampson").
