For their new single, the Killers ditched their penchant for performance videos and revisited their gaudy Las Vegas roots by setting the clip in a bordello.

In the video for "Mr. Brightside," director Sophie Muller turned an "Old West-looking

warehouse space (rumor has it many porno movies were shot there) into the Moulin Rouge, or shall we say 'Dangerous Liaisons,' " the band said in a newsletter sent to fans last week.

The Sin City rockers recently wrapped two days of shooting in California's San Fernando Valley for their second single and, according to bassist Mark Stoermer, their oldest song. "It's been played at every gig," he said.

"Mr. Brightside," which singer Brandon Flowers describes matter-of-factly as "just a song about a jealous person," features a narrator who seems to be lurking outside the window of an ex-lover, watching her interact with the new man in her life. "Now they're going to bed/ And my stomach is sick/ And it's all in my head/ But she's touching his chest/ Now he takes off her dress," Flowers sings.

Like most songs on the Killers' debut, Hot Fuss, "Mr. Brightside" tacks melancholy lyrics onto exuberant instrumentals. In this case, that lends an added creepiness factor to the song's narrator, who, despite feeling sick and succumbing to intense jealousy, keeps calling himself "Mr. Brightside."

"It's a very vulnerable song," said drummer Ronnie Vannucci. "You associate whether you're a psychopath or not."

Polish actress/dancer Isabella Miko ("Coyote Ugly") plays the role of leading lady, while Eric Roberts — brother of Julia — acts as the owner of the seedy bordello, and he "lives the part."

"This is our fourth video so far," the band wrote, "but this one was by far the biggest production we've been a part of yet."

The Killers shot three other clips that have aired in the U.K. (see "Las Vegas' Killers Hit The Jackpot After Brits Make A Fuss") but have only released the video for "Somebody Told Me" on these shores. That video, which featured the band performing in the desert against a wall of brightly colored lights, closely mirrored New Order's clip for "Crystal" (also directed by Muller), the video from which the band took its name. In the "Crystal" clip, the kick drum of a fictional band bore the name the Killers.

A clip for "Mr. Brightside" that the band shot for its U.K. audience became a top-10 video in England.

Though the Killers had spoken about potentially working with directors Anton Corbijn or Sofia Coppola — the latter of whom Vannucci said "doesn't return our phone calls" — they ultimately went with Muller, who "made [the storyline] come to life."

"We think," the band wrote, "just from watching the playback of the shoot, that this video is going to blow you away."
