Queen Latifah Tapped To Host The Grammys

She's been hailed in the hip-hop world and by Hollywood, and now Queen Latifah will extend her reign even further as host of the 47th annual Grammy Awards.

Recording Academy announced on Thursday (January 13).

"Queen Latifah is an extraordinary Renaissance artist with unparalleled style and substance, and her passion, talent and personality make her an excellent choice as host for our show," Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, said in a statement.

Latifah won a Grammy in 1994 for Best Rap Solo Performance for her single "U.N.I.T.Y." from her 1993 album, Black Reign. This year, she is up for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her collection of classic soul, blues and pop songs, The Dana Owens Album.

Kanye West leads the list of nominees for the 2005 Grammy Awards with 10 nods, for his album The College Dropout, his single "Jesus Walks" and his production work (see "Kanye Scores 10 Grammy Nominations; Usher And Alicia Keys Land Eight").
