A trio of American idiots, a quartet of Irishmen, a New Yorker and a Louisiana native will take the stage at the Grammys this year. In other words, Green Day, U2, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw were announced on Thursday (January 20) as
Christina Milian, Ellen DeGeneres and John Travolta were the first group of presenters announced for the show, which will be hosted this year by Queen Latifah (see "Queen Latifah Tapped To Host The Grammys"). Green Day are up for six Grammy Awards this year, mainly for American Idiot, the group's first album in four years. Nominations for the trio include Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Record of the Year (for the LP's title song). Thirteen-time Grammy winners U2 have received three nominations for their single "Vertigo," including Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song. Alicia Keys, a five-time Grammy winner, nabbed eight nominations for her album The Diary of Alicia Keys, while Grammy-winning country artist Tim McGraw is up for two awards for his Live Like You Were Dying. Presenters Milian, DeGeneres and Travolta have an impressive award-show history as well. Milian is up for two Grammy Awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), DeGeneres received a nod this year for Best Comedy Album, and Travolta is an Oscar-nominated actor.
