It's the type of detox center that Whitney Houston, Pookie from "New Jack City," Lindsay, Britney, Paris or even Amy Winehouse wouldn't be ashamed to get treated at: Ghostface Killah's Doe Rehab. "The Big Doe Rehab," GK said with a
"In the rehab, you could have the old ... you know the [man] that Anna Nicole Smith [married]? That type of dude — money since the '30s," Ghost added. "A Chinese man could have got rich from the Chinese restaurant;a baby, he got rich from inheritance, too much money. ... That's what The Big Doe Rehab is based on, someone that got showered with mad cream. 'Cash Rules Everything Around Me,' but it don't rule me. I'm the sole controller." And while the title of the album could lead you to believe that Tony Starks is diving deeper into rhymes about laying around and spending Benjamins, he once again proves why he's hip-hop's flyest weirdo and one of the game's most nimble thinkers. "It'll be times of the year where my mind is open," he said matter-of-factly. "So after I dropped my last album, More Fish, my mind was open at that time. I went back in. I knew what I wanted to do for the next project. I knew how I wanted to come. I wanted to come strictly street, no disrespect to my other fans. I got all types of fans — street, backpackers, whoever. But for this one, I felt that I needed to go all out. Still show your talent, but go all out. When you listen to The Big Doe Rehab, the first joint with me and Beanie Sigel, ['Barrel Brothers'], that's a classic already. Then you got me, Meth and Raekwon on 'Yolonda's House' — straight classic. Even '[We] Celebrate.' The 'White Linen Affair,' I named all rappers. We got intermissions and commercial breaks in the song. It's how Ghost gets bizarre with his rhyme and you're like, 'How did he put that together?' I just went in. The world is gonna appreciate it." The aforementioned "Yolanda's House" is vintage Ghost on-wax directorial rap, and he makes a movie with the aid of Method Man and Raekwon the Chef. While being chased by the police, Ghost manages to hide out at a girl's house, eat lunch and have sex before having to go on the run again. During his second authority evasion, he busts in on Meth having sex with an asthmatic woman, which leads to a little embarrassment. "Walk Around" is one of the most intense and descriptive narratives about the psychological aftermath of committing homicide you'll ever hear. It's almost status quo to hear an MC brag about how killing has no effect on their conscience. But Ghost writes from the perspective of a man who drifts close to madness after a violent shooting at a neighborhood corner store. "I wasn't strong," he says at the beginning of the song. "When I seen a n---a flesh on me, I couldn't hold it." On "Shakey Dog Starring Lolita," Ghost gets an assist from Raekwon the Chef to dodge the scorn-stained bullets of a vengeful female assassin. The track is followed by an interlude simply titled "!," where more gunfire erupts over salsa music. "I'mma size the people up," Ghost said. "Every album is an experiment, you see how the people react. I take that criticism and I go 'cause the game is funny now. It evolved into something else. I'm trying to pick at the people's heads and see what they want. Instead of me having to change my whole style up, I'm trying to keep what I got." Ghost told us it was taxing to tour with Wu-Tang this summer and record simultaneously. He also told us weeks ago that he was owed money by the RZA but didn't regret the outing. "If my problem's with RZA, it's not with the rest of the crew," he clarified. "I know I'm a major player on that team. I know [that if] they go to do their shows as far as Wu-Tang, and I'm not there, it's gonna be some fans that's gonna be upset, and I got a whole lot of weight. I don't know if shows will get canceled if I'm not there. ... I tour 24-7, so I'mma always be able to go out and do what I do. But those who's not out there in the mainstream, some of my brothers that's underground, I don't wanna stop them from eating because it don't got nothing to do with them. So I'mma sacrifice, I will take a pay cut and make less money just for my brothers. I love the Clan, but we just got certain problems right now." Ghost was the first of the Clan to speak out against RZA. The monetary problems were just the beginning. He also claimed that the Clan was not enthused about the musical direction RZA chose to take the new LP. Raekwon has since come out and co-signed. Last week, a source close to the Clan told MTV News that the majority, if not all of the Wu, are not going to support RZA or the group's album 8 Diagrams. "Throughout the years, you learn a lot of things," Ghost said of RZA. "Things come to light. I'm a loyal soldier from day one. I give a brother the shirt off my back. ... My heart is golden and I feel for people. ... Yeah, the money thing was kinda funny. [There are] certain things I felt that brothers shouldn't have did on certain albums. That's the shakeup on that." "As far as within the group, it's more like a delusion," RZA told MTV Base about the dissention that has been brought to the light. "I think it's [delusional] because, like I said, once we get together, it's not there. "Even Ghost ... last year there was a big rumor that Ghost wasn't getting along with RZA, Ghost is suing RZA and all this," he continued. "People don't know that Ghost got children by my sister. I got his kids with me like that. Or his kids be with my brother. We're family, first of all. But there have been periods of time where I don't see him for eight months and the rumor was that Ghost was not going to be on the new Wu-Tang album. I believed the rumor myself, but when I finally went to one of Ghostface's shows and sat down with him for one hour, he came to the studio the very next day. And Ghostface is on the Wu-Tang new album." This report is provided by MTV News
