Nick, who has diabetes and runs the Change for the Children Foundation, met with Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, The Associated Press reports. According to People magazine, he also had plans to meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and to tour Capitol Hill.

Although the Jonas Brothers visited Sasha and Malia Obama at the White House earlier this year, Nick told People that this was the first time he's ever met the president. "It was great," he said. "He came up and thanked me for meeting his daughters and playing for them. I said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you.' He said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you, too.' Then we took a picture with about 100 kids."

On Wednesday (June 24), Nick will testify before a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on federal funding for diabetes research alongside boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and actress Mary Tyler Moore. "It's amazing [to meet them]," he said of the pop-culture legends. "They're, like, household names."

Last summer, during a press conference about his Change for the Children Foundation, Nick explained his reason for starting it. "My vision has always been to be a positive light," Nick said. "A simple win is being able to inspire."
