The 24th season of Oprah Winfrey's titular talk show is set to begin with a bang. During the premiere week, which kicks off September 14, Winfrey will pay tribute to the late
Carey announced via Twitter and her Web site on Thursday that she'll perform on the show airing Friday, September 18. She followed it up with a tweet that said, "Rehearsing for these shows! Can't wait to see as many of you as possible!" The episode, which will air live from New York (Winfrey's show normally tapes in Chicago), will feature Carey performing new music from her forthcoming album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. She didn't announce what she would be singing, though it's safe to assume she will perform her current single, "I Want to Know What Love Is," a cover of the classic Foreigner tune. (Carey also debuted the cover art for the single on her Web site Thursday night.) Winfrey has had her hands in a number of high-profile music stories recently. In addition to conducting an in-depth interview with Jay-Z for her O magazine, she also recently spoke out against Chris Brown, who said he felt that Winfrey's episode about domestic abuse was "a slap in the face." "Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school, but she takes domestic abuse very seriously," Winfrey's camp said in a statement. "She hopes he gets the counseling he needs." And a callout for Black Eyed Peas fans on Oprah's Web site seems to indicate that she's planning an episode featuring the chart-topping group. The "Oprah" premiere week begins on Monday, September 14, with the first of a two-part episode devoted to her in-depth interview with Houston, which promises to have "no topic off limits."
