Lady Gaga certainly had everyone guessing in the days leading up with the VMAs about just what she would wear to the big show. And she did not disappoint. We're not just talking about the fact that the VMA winner

showed up to the show with Miss Piggy's paramour, Kermit the Frog — she also managed to get every fashionista's tongue wagging at her incredibly kooky ensembles.

When she arrived on the red carpet, Gaga proved that her style has definitely evolved beyond simply eschewing pants. She showed up to the show in a Victorian-style dress taken to a whole new level, with feathers, a golden mask straight out of "The Phantom of the Opera" and a golden neck brace.

Once she took the stage, it wasn't just her performance that had everyone talking — it was also the combination of white knee-high boots paired with an asymmetrical lace belly-baring top and white underwear.

To accept her Best New Artist award she donned red lace, including a mask covering her entire face. However, in order to clearly thank "God and her gays," she had to strip off the lace mask and accompanying hat.

Then when Beyoncé won Video of the Year and graciously invited Taylor Swift onstage to finally accept her award for Best Female Video, the camera panned to Gaga wearing what looked like a white wreath-type head wrap which looked a little fantastical and, almost like the woman herself, out of this world.
