"To be totally honest, I don't really have any celebrity friends, I don't know anybody, and I'm not enticed by that lifestyle," she told MTV News. "If anything, getting back to my record [The Fame Monster], I miss the past, and I've had to mourn the past and try to find a place for myself that isn't the past." But if she can't go back to her pre-fame days, Gaga hopes she can at least avoid the fate of the typical celebrity. "[I also want something that] isn't this Hollywood kind of future that we imagine all pop stars go to," she explained. "I have to find my own space. I try to reject all of that. I try to stay internal and just focus on myself." With the fame, come hoards of celebrities singing Gaga's praises, whether or not she wants it (which she kind of doesn't). Although she appreciates the kind words Madonna had for her in a recent issue of Rolling Stone, Gaga's not interested in fishing for compliments. "Flattery, to me, I don't know why, but that implies an element of ego that I really try and stay away from," Gaga said. "I know Madonna, so in friendship, what she said about me was so kind, and it made me smile inside." This report is provided by MTV News
