Lady Gaga Is 'Fantastic Creature,' Say Fellow Celebs

Contemporary Art's 30th Anniversary gala this weekend. Singing her new single, "Speechless," she displayed just the kind of avant-garde artistry that had all the celebrities in attendance praising Gaga's gutsy persona.

"I don't know about everybody else, but I just love the fact that she's like, 'Yes, this is what I'm wearing, and yes, this is how I'll be performing,' " Christina Ricci told MTV News on the red carpet. "And anyone who has that sort of self-confidence and the b---s to sort of be like, 'I'm a fantastic creature. You'd better love me,' is OK in my book."

Other stars like Rose McGowan and Ciara praised Gaga's tough attitude and that fact that she's bringing performance back to the world of pop music. "I love what she wears," McGowan confessed. "Performers are performers for a reason. Give me a show."

"I think she kind of surprises you with everything she does," Ciara added. "Very bold."

Another gutsy gal, Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson, thinks that Gaga's ability to bring the art world into the mainstream is what makes her so appealing. "I love that she's out there doing what she's doing and taking chances and sort of living outside the mainstream in some way but still managing to infiltrate it," she said. "I'm so grateful to her for being out there and not being afraid to be laughed at and taking chances and risks."

Gaga herself recently acknowledged to MTV News that she's on a mission to bring her outsider message to the mainstream when she talked about her appearance on "Gossip Girl" that airs Monday night (November 16) on the CW. "I really sat down with the writers," she said. "I was like, 'Look, I want to do this, and the reason I want to do this is because I am trying to say something that is not mainstream in a mainstream capacity. So, if I can say it on your show, that would be, like, a real coup d'état for me as a performance artist.' "
