self-titled major-label debut and perform its first single.

Before he kicked off his performance of "Live Like We're Dying," he spoke with "GMA" host Robin Roberts, who commented on how nice a guy he is. He jokingly responded, "Thank you. I hope that's a good thing."

The two then discussed Allen's late-night trip to the Empire State Building with his band, from which he got back just hours before his appearance on the show. "We walked from our hotel. It was a 35-, 40-minute walk to the Empire State Building. We got back at, like, 1 in the morning," he explained, seeming in good form for someone who didn't get much sleep. "It was a good trip. It was awesome. We went all the way to the top. It was cool."

Allen, who beat out Adam Lambert on "American Idol" last season, seemed pretty excited to have his album finally hit stores. "It's pretty cool. Today is a cool day," he said, adding that he has yet to hear his new single on the air. "To be honest, I have not heard it on the radio. I don't listen to the radio a whole lot."

After his chat with Roberts, Allen and his band performed "Live Like We're Dying" in a one-song set, closing out the program.
