What is the G8?
G8 stands for the "Group of Eight" nations. The G8 unites the leaders of the world's most powerful countries, including the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia. At the Gleneagles Summit, the G8 representatives will discuss major global issues, seeking to reach informal agreements on measures that they can address in a cooperative manner to achieve their goals more effectively. At each summit leaders agree upon certain initiatives; follow-up meetings take place throughout the year to make sure commitments are being honored.
