A Thistle & Shamrock Christmas Ceilidh
Green Linnet
Would you trust someone from NPR to pick your Christmas music for you? You could end up with a compilation of three-fingered banjo pickers, or a mix tape better suited for driving across Yugoslavia in Cokie Roberts' first VW Beetle. Undaunted, National Public Radio's resident Celtic music expert, Fiona Ritchie, has assembled this collection of pennywhistles, bodhrans, and blarney with nary a trace of Oliver Cromwell or the Irish famine to trouble us. Fiona sets the Aran sweater-comfy mood with a ceilidh memoir straight out of Ballykissangel, while the packaging reassures the consumer that although you didn't get Junior that Tekno the Robotic Puppy he wanted, you are special. Fiona has even included a recipe for Dundee cake. The music? Well, it's slick Celtic fodder from groups like Altan, Capercaillie, Wolfstone, and others that jigs in one ear and out the other, and as such is fit to send into outer space in order to educate alien species about music beloved of booksellers. If it was fruit you're after, we recommend the Dundee cake.
