Yule B' Swingin' Too!
Hip-O
Classy and brassy, Yule B' Swingin' Too! evokes glimmering ballrooms, black-and-white movies, and downing one too many hot toddies as the snow piles up outside. For the romantic and the nostalgia buff alike, this collection is so chock-full of classic recordings it makes one wonder what could have been in the first edition. How can you beat Ella Fitzgerald singing "White Christmas" or Duke Ellington and his orchestra jazzing up "Jingle Bells"? How about Louis Armstrong's heartwarming "Christmas in New Orleans" or an early Billie Holiday version of "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm"? There are also tunes from Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Louis Prima. Even more interesting are the songs that seem to come out of left field, like Dean Martin's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," in which he inexplicably lapses into a German accent and croons about "Rudy the red-beaked reindeer." The Ann-Margret/Al Hirt duet "Baby It's Cold Outside" is pretty steamy stuff, until you see the bear-like Hirt's photo and imagine him and the lissome sex kitten getting it on. But swingin's the thing, and for those listeners who don't know how to begin, the thoughtful producers have even included a basic dance step diagram.
