Janet Jackson Cancels Tour Opener


Missing stage segment forces singer to postpone Vancouver, British Columbia, show until Monday.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Remember that piece of Janet Jackson's set that had yet to arrive as the singer rehearsed here Tuesday?

As of Wednesday, the piece had still not arrived, forcing Jackson to cancel the Thursday-night

(July 5) opener of her All for You tour at General Motors Place (see "Janet Jackson Tour Set To Launch (Almost)").

Jackson's tour manager, Dave Russell, said that while "90 percent of the bells and whistles are here," and Janet, her band and dancers could still do the show without the missing portion of the set, the singer did not feel right giving her Vancouver fans an incomplete performance.

The set segment's delay, according to Russell, was due in part to the combination of the Canada Day national holiday Sunday and the Fourth of July holiday. Although the missing piece was expected to arrive in Vancouver Thursday morning, several run-throughs must first be done with the full set.

Janet's All for You tour will now kick off Saturday in Portland, Oregon. Vancouver fans won't have to wait long, however; the show has been rescheduled here for Monday.
