An upcoming, one-night-only, late, late show featuring a collaborative performance by The Artist, former Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham and soul diva Chaka Khan at New York's 1,200-capacity Irving Plaza sold out in less than an
hour
Tickets for the April 10 event, billed as "New Power Soul Featuring the Artist Formerly Known As Prince, Larry Graham and Chaka Khan," went on sale this morning (Thursday), according to Renee Portoff, spokeswoman for promoters Delsner/Slater Enterprises.
According to Portoff, doors for the event will open at midnight, with The
Artist, Khan and Graham scheduled to take the stage at 1:30 a.m. "The
Artist will be in town for an awards ceremony and scheduled this as an
aftershow," Portoff explained.
She also confirmed that The Artist, Khan and Graham will be playing together, not in separate sets.
The hit-and-run, one-night-only nature of the show is in the spirit of
the Artist's successful "Jam of the Year Tour," which at varying points featured Khan and Graham Central Station as opening acts.
Though hippie jam band Leftover Salmon are scheduled to play the Irving
Plaza at 8 p.m. the same evening, Portoff said the two shows will be
separate entities.
"The Leftover Salmon show will go on as scheduled," she said. "But they'll be cleared out of there by the time [The Artist's] show starts."
