Donation Part of The Foundation's 10th Anniversary Goal to Ensure 1 Million Public School Students Receive The Benefits of Music Education

Los Angeles, CA, June 7, 2007 - The VH1 Save The Music Foundation and Time Warner Cable, with the help of STAR 98.7 today are hosting a culmination event at Valley Alternative Magnet School (add address) at 10:00 am as part of the Foundation’s 10th Anniversary.  The event celebrates the donation of $50,000 worth of new musical instruments to restore Valley Alternative and Balboa Gifted/High Achieving Magnet’s music education programs in the Los Angeles Unified School District for the 2006/2007 school year. The donation is part of The Foundation’s efforts to restore 4 million dollars worth of instrumental music programs nationwide throughout this year. In addition, it brings VH1 Save The Music closer to achieving its 10th Anniversary goal of reaching 1 million students and advance its ongoing mission of ensuring that all children have access to the benefits of music education.  

Throughout the year, t he Foundation will continue to work with Time Warner Cable and STAR 98.7 to guarantee that all students in the Los Angeles Unified School District receive music education as part of their core curriculum.  Since 1998 Time Warner Cable and VH1 Save The Music have provided $1,185,000 worth of new musical instruments to restore music programs in 49 Los Angeles area public schools. 

“We at VH1 Save The Music couldn’t be happier to celebrate our 10th anniversary by donating $50,000 worth of new musical instruments to the students and teachers of the Los Angeles Unified School District,” said Paul Cothran, Executive Director, VH1 Save The Music.  “Of course none of this would be possible without the help from our friends at Time Warner Cable.  Their support throughout the years has allowed VH1 Save The Music to bring music education to increasing numbers of public school students.”
