Their team name comes from the high school in the movie Heathers, and it's also a tribute to their favorite rock star, Paul Westerberg of The Replacements. If you pay close attention to their t-shirts, you'll find that the typeface is another reference, this time to the band Cheap Trick. Clearly, Pop Culture is in the blood of these three men from Lawrence, KS. They play in rock bands, host trivia shows on local cable TV and review films for their own website, Scene-Stealers.com.

Fragilay's obsession with Molly Ringwald, Poison and New Kids on the Block makes them the perfect "World Series of Pop Culture" contestants. Cousins Shalonda and Sherita once watched The Breakfast Club twice a day for an entire summer. These women from Baltimore, MD took their name from the movie A Christmas Story. In the film, the father receives a package in the mail labeled "Fragile," and pronounces it "fragilay, exclaiming, "it must be Italian."

They all perform and produce a TV improv comedy show in San Diego called The House, which is now in its seventh season. Returning champions El Chupacabra ("goat sucker" in Spanish) has had a whole year to enjoy the fame and fortune of being the 2006 World Series of Pop Culture victors. Their local newspaper in Atlanta, GA ran the headline, "Local Trivia Team Makes Good, Takes Home $250,000," and Mason and Jodi are frequently recognized from their appearance on the show. Though they already fattened their bank accounts once, they are eager to hold on to the crown and take home the prize again this year.




Team Motherboy

Carlton Banks Dance Academy

Any pop culture aficionado will get the Carlton Banks reference from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but not everyone can actually do the dance as well as this team does. And, yes, they do it on stage. Though two of the three teammates are doctors, Smitha, Joe and Kryss best describe themselves as "Three's Company" meets The Three Amigos.




Twisted Misters

The White Russians

Louisville's own The White Russians are all about The Big Lebowski. Their team name refers to "The Dude's" favorite drink and every year, Chris, Lori and Stewart spend a weekend at Lebowski-fest in their hometown.
