About Episode

When Supermodels Ruled the World is a one-hour oral and visual history of the phenomena of glamorous fashion queens. This is POPhistory — the story of a cultural history as it was experienced by a mass culture. The Supermodels show chronicles the history of the stunningly attractive with particular emphasis on how Supermodels changed pop culture forever. Although their meteoric presence may have waxed and waned over the past decades, Supermodels transformed the pop landscape by influencing the worlds of fashion, music, film, television and art.

The narrative is driven entirely by interviews with those who were or worked with Supermodels. Along with fashion photographers, designers and other scenemakers, the Supermodels interviewed include Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, and Veronica Webb. These people relay the story in their own words, recounting the allure and the not so glamorous behind-the-runway moments.

We’ll chronicle the time from a moment where Supermodels seemed to be everywhere – film, television, and every magazine cover – to the period when fashion shifted away from the Amazon ideals of beauty to the waifish, emaciated look. When actresses glam up and begin competing for the magazine covers and even the runways, it’s the beginning of the end for Supermodels. Shot in a multi-camera set up that allows the interview subject to look right through the television into the eyes of the audience, When Supermodels Ruled the World is shot stylishly and intimately, giving it a unique look and feel.
