The Role of 2007 Performers

The great thing about our Rock Honors show is watching the bands tear it up on stage. Each year the iconic vets prove that they're as vital as ever, and each year strong young artists to salute their heroes with a blast through a classic song or two. Here are the eight acts that will rock the house on May 24.

Genesis
They started off as a trippy prog-rock ensemble, but as the chemistry sorted itself out, the group began to demonstrate its pop prowess. By the '80s, their appeal was enormous. The trio of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks knew how to make hit after hit - while throwing a few political punches, too. These 2007 Honorees will be romping through a chunk of their forever-impressive songbook.

Heart
Their great hard rock hits of the '70s made a big dent in pop music, and the enormous popularity of their '80s power ballads gave them a second career. The Wilson sisters have all the elements needed to impress. As one of our 2007 Honorees, they'll take the stage to show us just how passionate they still are about tearing through their terrific catalog.

Ozzy Osbourne
From his earliest days with the mighty Black Sabbath to his hard-rocking solo discs of the '80s, Ozzy has been in the middle of rock's heaviest music. As one of our 2007 Honorees, he's not only going to be celebrated by Queens of the Stone Age, he's going to be performing as well. Who knows what beautiful mayhem will result?

ZZ Top
Three guys, three decades. The Top has been kicking ass for almost 35 years now. The grit that marked their early blues rock has been the centerpiece of all their work. It's there beneath the surface of their gargantuan '80s hits, and it will be there when our 2007 Honorees dive into a performance of a classic hit during the show.

Keane
Keane has come full-circle from its origins as a cover band to pay tribute to Genesis at Rock Honors 2007. The British trio put the piano front and center when they splashed onto the pop scene in 2004 with the gorgeous "Somewhere Only We Know." With Tom Chaplin's vocals leading the way, these childhood friends have a gorgeous way with soaring ballads. They're touring songs from their latest disc, Under the Iron Sea, this summer.

Nickelback
One of the biggest rock bands on the planet, Nickelback has its own ZZ Top connection -- guess Canada and Texas really aren't that far apart. Billy Gibbons collaborated with Chad Kroeger and the guys on 2005's chart-topping All The Right Reasons. N'back returns the favor at Rock Honors 2007, toasting the sharp dressed men with one of their greatest hits.

Queens of the Stone Age
You can't tip the hat to Ozzy Osbourne if you're not willing to turn it up to 11, and without a doubt, the Queens are. For the last few years they have been heralded as the heaviest new group in rock. And when they take the stage at Rock Honors 2007, Josh Homme and his pals will make the place quake with the beautiful thunder of non-stop thud. Over the Years and Through the Woods is their latest disc.

Gretchen Wilson
It's takes a woman with lots of snarl to adequately salute two ladies like Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson. That's why we got Gretchen Wilson. The singer turned country music upside down a few years ago, arriving on the scene with a bodacious attitude that took her twanged-out tunes to the top. She's been a Heart fan from the get-go, and at Rock Honors 2007 she'll connect with mighty grunge gods of Alice In Chains to salute the Seattle sisters.

Alice in Chains
Few Seattle bands have roared like Alice in Chains. One of the grunge revolution's key outfits, the group combined Layne Staley's passionate vocals and Jerry Cantrell's outraged guitar with one of the city's heaviest rhythm sections. Staley died in 2002, but with singer William Duvall now up front, Cantrell and associates still rock full-tilt - some say they're harder than ever. They hook-up with Gretchen Wilson to salute Seattle's own Heart.
