Based on the documentary, Say It Loud! A Celebration of Black Music In America expands on the breadth of artists featured in the series by focusing on pioneers and contemporary performers. The chronological sequencing showcases black music's development and progression from the early days of ragtime and bebop through '40s-era swing, blues, and jazz, to the advent of rock 'n' roll, '60s soul, R&B, and pop, through '70s and '80s funk, disco and hip-hop to '90s rap, and much more in between, including historical sound bites interspersed between songs. Packaged in a stylish photo album-style box, the collection also includes a lavish book featuring a historical timeline, beautiful photographs, and extensive liner notes.

DISC THREE From "I've Got a Woman" by Ray Charles to "Maiden Voyage" by Herbie Hancock, Disc Three spans 1954 to 1965 and features soulful, experimental, controversial, and downright beautiful performances. Also Sammy Davis Jr. discusses prejudice, and W.E.B. Du Bois offers perspective on the "Place of the Black Man in Society." Includes Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Etta James, John Coltrane, and many more...

DISC FOUR The Civil Rights Era ("We Shall Overcome" by James Cleveland) and the Motown Sound ("You've Really Got a Hold on Me" by the Miracles) represent much of Disc Four, which spans 1962 to 1967. Recorded excerpts include key speeches by the era's three most significant figures: Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy, and Malcolm X.
