Of course everyone remembers Calvin Ayre. From growing up on his father's pig farm to living it up in his $3.5 million Costa Rican estate, billionaire web mogul Calvin has come a long way. And so has Roman Abramovich, once an orphan living in the Arctic, this college drop-out made his fortune in a series of controversial oil-export deals in the 90s. Today he's mostly enjoying spending his billions, an estimated $700 million in recent years on expensive hobbies like yachts and football clubs.

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling was a welfare mom before she collected her billion-dollar fortune and became the only billion-dollar author in the world thanks to Potter royalties, merchandising, films and worldwide sales of her books topping 325 million copies. But with the last book due this year, as well as the last three movies in the series, it sure seems like Rowling's earning power isn't stopping anytime soon.
