2007 was, without a doubt, a record-setting year in super spending by the super rich. With celeb-obsessions reaching all-time highs, so did their paychecks. Earning more ungodly amounts of money than ever before, these ludicrously loaded super stars were more than willing to spend, spend, spend their famous little fannies off! And spend they did! In this hour we're breaking down the most mindblowing spending of '07 (from mega-vacations to mega-diamonds and from seriously pricey handbags to more than their fair share of multi-million dollar real estate) as well as the newest (and most shocking) trends that had this year's stars shelling out more than ever (from rehab to fossil collecting!?!). So get ready because The Fabulous Life is taking you on a whirlwind tour through the most jaw-dropping, outrageous and over-the-top celebrity super spenders of the year!
First up, it's the go-to indulgence for Hollywood's hottest--real estate. Like Jon Bon Jovi's $24 million dollar New York penthouse or Director Michael Bay's $18 million Miami manse. But for the biggest real estate purchases of the year, look no further than California's Platinum Triangle- an area that welcomed Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, the Beckhams, and the Cruises.
The hottest trend in celebrity super spending? Exclusivity! That's right, today celebrities have the money to buy anything. So, their new challenge is getting their hands on those hard to get limited edition items. Beyonce dropped $52,000 for an exclusive Louis Vuitton handbag. 50 Cent just paid $412,000 for the Rolls Royce Phanton Drophead Coupe Convertible, only 80 are being made available in North America. And you thought the Iphone was tough to get? Check out the limited edition Racetrack Legends phone from Vertu, you can't find one in the stores- but you'll find one in the hands of Jon Bon Jovi and Jay-Z.
And then there was the eco-trend, green is the new black! Julia Roberts plunked down the most green to make her real estate green--$20 million to be exact for her brand new mega-eco-friendly mega-mansion. And she's not the only willing to pay up to get down with the green trend. From high-priced eco-friendly resorts (where Cameron Diaz and Heidi Klum happily pay $1,200 per night) to high-end eco-friendly car (how about a hundred-thousand dollar sports car) today's celebs are the first to pony up the dough in the name of our planet. But going green is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new trends in 2007 celebrity spending.
In 2007, like never before, rehab was the go-to get-well celebrity hot spot--just ask Lindsay Lohan. Her summer stint at Wonderland Rehab Center on LA's Mulholland Drive came complete with gourmet meals, yoga, two pools and horseback riding. From Keith Urban to Jesse Metcalf, Eddie Van Halen and even mother-to-be Nicole Richie, Lindsay was certainly not the only celeb spending their hard-earned Gs to be fab in rehab.
This year-ending celebration of celebrity super spending will also feature fun sidebars, featuring the year's Must-Haves (like the Unstoppable hats and Chanel sunglasses). It was a whirlwind year of crazy celebrity spending madness and mayhem so we're recapping it all in The Fabulous Life presents Celebrity Superspenders 2007!
