INTERVIEW
Cory Kreig, guitarist with the Dallas-based five-some Flickerstick, remembers their audition for Bands on the Run - sort of. "We went down the street to a bar and got drunk, had our manager call us when it was our turn and walked back and played," he says. He adds, "You can pretty much expect that there's going to be a lot of beer drinking" as the show unfurls on a nation's TV screens.
But Flickerstick don't let booze get in the way of their music, which is described as "somewhere between Radiohead and the Foo Fighters." Since forming in 1997 they've won numerous local awards and released their debut album, Welcoming Home the Astronauts, last year. But watch yourself around guitarist/vocalist Rex. "When I say he's psychotic, I don't mean, 'Ho ho ho, he's psychotic and we're really cute,'" warns Cory. "I mean he has serious psychological problems and I really think he might be crazy."
