Venice Beach. 10 am. The competitors in VH1's Bands on the Run met for the first time. There's Soulcracker, five rockers from San Diego; Texas rockers Flickerstick ; and L.A.'s Harlow, who formed only in 1999 and have yet to get a real taste of the rock 'n' roll life. After checking out the new vans provided to them by VH1, they gathered around tour manager Kasey to hear the rules.
Bands on the Run is simple. Each band plays a gig in a selected city. The act that makes the most money from ticket and merchandise sales wins. They set the prices. They promote the shows. All they have to survive on are $20 a day per band member, gas and phone cards, and a hotel room. First stop: San Francisco.
