Host of Top Twenty Countdown
VH1 is always looking for those who are smart and with-it. And fortunately for us the smart and with-it Aamer Haleem accepted the daunting task of locking horns with todayís most interesting artists when we dialed him up. He knows no fear. This is, after all, a man who blew off a community TV job in Mississauga, Ontario for the bright lights of Hong Kong. He wants the world and he wants it now.
Aamer was born in London but spent his formative years in Canada. Educated at the University of Toronto and Humber Collegeís School of Journalism, his first job was an associate producer on The Sports Network before he went to Mississauga to fulfill his dream of working in front of the camera.
In 1996, however, Aamer left the provinces to host Red Alert on Hong Kong music video network Channel V. There he interviewed the likes of Alanis Morissette, Hootie & the Blowfish and Bush. It was fun, but when Hong Kong went back to China in 1997, Aamer returned to Canada to join Vancouverís VTV as the host of VTV Breakfast. ďItís a broadcasterís dream come true,Ē he said at the time.
His dreams have just gotten sweeter. Now he hosts our Top 20 Countdown and finds himself chatting it up elbows with the likes of Billy Joel, U2, and the Coen Brothers backstage at this year's Grammys show red carpet. He even got to interview Alanis Morissette again. Itís a long way from Mississauga to VH1, but Aamer enjoys the trek and has many more miles to go.
