VH1: In Bed With Madonna

Clearly, the newlywed Madonna is not settling into domesticity, not even briefly.

The pop mogul's Madguy Films has entered into a deal with VH1 to produce television films based on music history and culture, the channel announced

on Wednesday, January 17.

The first film produced by Madguy - named after Madonna and Guy Oseary, her partner at Maverick Records - will be The Dusty Springfield Story, a biopic devoted to the late '60s pop star generally regarded as the most soulful British female singer of her generation. The film is planned for a late-2001 or early-2002 broadcast.

VH1 has proved its music-moviemaking mettle throughout the past two years, with the likes of Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story and Meat Loaf: To Hell and Back. Four other projects are scheduled for production this year: a fictional thriller, a courtroom drama, a comedy, and a biopic dedicated to Def Leppard, arguably the most resilient pop-metal band in world history.

Deborah Gibson will star in and write music for the TV movie Teen Queens. It will concern the rivalry between two former teen pop stars, whose careers were destroyed when their hatred erupted into an awards show catfight. In their post-teen years, the two become managers of teen pop acts of the next generation, and the spat begins anew.

Teen Queens will no doubt set Gibson to reminisce about the salad days of the 1987-88 Debbie Gibson/Tiffany rivalry.
