Celebrity Rehab Reunion Bonus Clip .. See what didn't make it into the show! Featuring the song "Something To Hope For" by The Undeserving.
Part two...Being able to see this now makes me realize it is an extremely selfish disease and that it is more about intensive self-centeredness and around recovery but in it and from what has and hasn't caught my attention in the past in different recovery atmospheres that there is a few things that sticks out above everything for long lasting happy sobriety. THIS GOES FOR ANYONE! WHO WILL HONESTLY, SINCERELY TRY. Not like the days when I would be going to 12 step groups and spouting off," I don't know why I went out, I’m doing everything I should be doing." Bull! I was not, and anyone including celebrities can recover if they have the capacity to be totally honest and willing to go TO ANY LENGTH! For recovery. The 12 Step plan and fellowships are successful for the reason I am going to give where other methods have failed like in my case and thousands that I have met that did the psychiatrist, group therapy, one on one counseling or just plain turned into a religious fanatic ended up at the doors of a 12 step fellowship. Admitting and accepting the problem and realizing one cannot beat the game alone is one, also writing out all our resentments and things we’ve done wrong and then telling another person. Being willing to continually work on our instincts that got us into trouble in the first place and correcting all our wrongs from our past unless it were to hurt someone else. Taking stock in our daily deeds of what we done to help someone else or who did we hurt and if we did to make amends for that right away, hence, keeping ourselves clean so we can feel good about ourselves and doing this on the spot if we have to instead of that thing where we stick our foot in our mouths and then stay up all night knowing the person we bad mouthed or harmed is up also thinking of us when in reality they’re probably sound asleep. Trying to make a channel to some sort of Power Higher than our thinking that is good and loving and trying to make that conscious contact with IT by our actions and sincerity. And lastly walking the walk and trying to pass this message of hope to another who is lost out in that war in hell where the clock is just something that hangs on the wall for us to know when the dope man is in or when the liquor store opens. Where there seems to be no real existence just a blur from one day to the next everything being juggled by the amount of substance we have. What a way to live. I always had to make sure I had enough to get through a party or gathering or family deal. Talk about slavery at its finest! One of the other elements that is very important is the connection with the herd. The herd is the people that are like us, the ones who are trying to do the same thing as we are. There is protection in numbers. Plus one of the elements of powerful cement which binds the addict is sharing in common peril. We are no longer single freaks of nature doing things no one else has; there are others out there like us. But one thing that is bad is robbing people of their true bottoms. They have to be beaten down to a point where they are willing to go to any length to keep recovery priority one in their lives. I know a man appreciates a life preserver more that’s stuck out in the middle of an ocean more than one who’s just right off shore. Plus we always appreciate something that comes harder than not. The biggest gift and benefit is to try to help those who are in need of it. To me almost like a reverse karma thing also, the more we give back the more we lighten our souls and feel good about ourselves, hence again, having feeling of purpose in life. What is life anyway if it isn’t about giving than taking. Our world is suffering right now because of what we take from the earth with no regard for the future of our generations. What a shame selfishness! I have found happiness, freedom and peace along with some serenity because I hang around the herd, who are now my family and friends, cleaned up the past, working on keeping it clean, getting rid of the old ways and destructive actions and trying to give back what was giving to me, FREE!
Part one…..My name is Ben and I'm a recovered addict/alcoholic. I was an easy half gallon plus vodka a day. I shot up to two bundles of heroin a day or more and towards the end crack was right there. I have had withdrawals countless times. I have O.D.'d a few times. I was first in rehab at sixteen for heroin addiction. I was already an alcoholic in grade school on, having to drink because of the physical addiction. I really would like to see all of the celebrities who want to really get clean and sober, do it. The bad thing about celebrity rehab is you are paying people to go to rehab which from the very start obstructs the process of hitting bottom. You also encourage their rash behavior for ratings. Give me 10 grand or 100 grand for a series while I’m using and I’m going to try to smuggle what I can in the rehab facility and then count down the days to party time. Then I’ll spout off to all my so called friends how stupid you were to pay me to go in the first place, and all the while really needing help. Taking advantage of an addict no matter how smug, ego centric, cocky, arrogant and flat out ugly (inside not out) they may be, like some of the celebrities on Rehab, and I don’t want to be standing next to you when your karma goes off. Man is that what our world has come to. Take advantage of addicts for ratings? I have learned one thing above all from recovery and that is the love for another addict, selfless not selfish. Like the song from Tesla, It really is not what you got but what you give that will truly make you happy and free. Like Frank Sinatra I did it (recovery) my way countless times. I have been around all types of recovery methods including psychiatry, group therapy, and methadone for nine years, drinking and going to narcotics anonymous or shooting dope and going to alcoholics anonymous and trying to rationalize that whole thing where I would be shooting heroin and say, “well at least I’m not drinking while going to A.A.” and the same for N.A. I would drink and say, “I’m not doing drugs, look at me.” I have abused and sabotaged recovery attempts time and time again, hence never really trying. Thinking there was the answer in substances. Drugs and alcohol seemed to be doing something for me I didn’t think I could do for myself. It was the answer to not being good looking enough, or not a good enough dancer or even the ability to ask someone to dance and just the old, nothing is that important or bad when under the influence. It made me two feet taller, better looking, the life of the party, etc; etc.
